HikingGreat!

A perfect "hike" if you want to get some fresh air but don't have a lot of time. I'm a student at Regis so this is going to be my go to study break. This is a relatively flat trail that would be good for families, but if you bring a stroller you may want to make it an all terrain one. Lots of dogs but all were well behaved and I did not see any poop on the trail. Plenty of can's and poop bags have made it really easy for dog owners. The reservoir is fenced which is understandable but much of it is covered in natural growth so in season the view will be quite obstructed, still seems like it will be lovely though.

Terrible. SO many dogs and majority off leash, poop left everywhere, stepped in it several times. One dog attacked my 7 yo and path super icy (late Feb hike). Won’t be returning.

Too many unleashed dogs, including a husky that knocked me to the ground. And barely any views of the reservoir.

HikingGreat!

The path is wide, flat, well-maintained, and clean. There’s plenty of parking at the trailhead. Although the reservoir is surrounded by a gate, the surrounding forest and views of the water are still very nice. It was peaceful today, and the puppies enjoyed meeting all the other dogs on the trail.

Lovely winter walk, there are some frozen sections around the reservoir that might become muddy in the spring. The side trails are nice for a more private walk, but are trail markers are inconsistent.

Note there is a chain link fence between the path and lake all the way around. Significantly detracts from the view

Beautiful, easy hike around the reservoir. Down side, tons of people and free range dogs, and muddy patches everywhere if it rains. Upside, easy level, almost no elevation gain.

Solid easy trail, and took a little less than an hour. Lots of close parking, beautiful trees along the hike. The only negative is the fence that goes all along the reservoir - it blocks the view.

This has been a go to dog walk loop for decades for the Metro West towns of Waltham, Newton, Wellesley, Wayland and Weston. Dogs must be on leash. The entrance to the trail has ample parking and the views of the reservoir are nice, mostly wooded the trail is muddy in spots and sometimes flooded after a heavy rain. Duck boots may be suitable after snow or any substantial precipitation. It's also buggy from June thru Sept and there is a triple E threat in this area, so big spray is a must. Also even though it's only 17 miles west of Boston there is a significant population of deer nearby so check your dog for ticks. Its a fun family walk that should be completed in 45 minutes or so. Note that the water is surrounded by a chain link fence and there is no fishing here. This is an active water supply to over 100k people and part of the MWRA.
