Upper Goose Pond via Appalachian Trail is a 6.5 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Lee, Massachusetts that features a lake and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, running, and nature trips and is best used from April until October.
Great snowy hike. Only an inch or so of snow so snow boots were fine. This stretch is fairly easy and downhill if one way - would be good with snowshoes if snow was deeper. Connected this with the upper goose pond trail to the parking lot on US20 as a one way trip and cars at either end.
lovely fall hike...the air a surreal glow with the sun streaming through the colorful leaves. the ground a mosaic of color that obscured rocks n roots, so footing tricky at times. the trail well marked, one downed tree about 1/4 mile in that one had to climb over. light foot traffic (all had masks). hike ends at a dock where folks lounged...there r other areas to hang out on the shore if u root around. the AMC cabin was closed. took us 5hrs round trip but we stopped a lot to soak it all in. def recommend this easy-ish hike.
This was a great trail. It has lots of ups and downs to get your heart rate up. Ignore those that say going to the cabin/shelter isnt worth it because its closed. Just past the shelter is the dock and by far the best views of the lake! We had the dock to ourselves soaked our feet and fed the fish that come right up to you. It was great! We also saw several through hikers which was cool and a small black bear near the tent platforms.
Beautiful hike through woods! Easy trail but some rocky spots that could be considered moderate. Nice spot to dip in the water!
Not a bad hike, just know that you’ll be in the woods for most of it. Upper goose pond was crowded- easily 30 people camping. More on their way as I was leaving. It’s not a particularly scenic part of the AT but the trail is beautiful no matter where you are on it.
8.7.19. A relatively easy woodsy hike, rewarded with some lovely close-up views of Upper Goose Pond. After reaching the pond, I tacked on a hike down to near I90 via the AT campsite which frankly wasn’t worth it. (The All Trails map bears no relation to the trail reality down there.) Here are my stats however, just in case they might serve as a rough guide to what to expect: Distance: 8.1 miles Elevation Gain: 1,066 feet Moving Time: 2:57:35
Pleasant flat walk to first pond, cross the mass pike (cool!!) then some steep climbing for about .25 miles—hang in there! At top, a. nice up and down but we still haven’t finished it all the way to the end—next time!
No top of a mountain vista but nice day hike. Followed the AT from Goose Pond Rd. like it is on the map down to where the cut off to the left goes to the cabin or continue right on the AT then back. Goose pond looks like a great area, saw many on kayak and some on their boats out fishing. As mentioned, trail is not really steep but has its moments where it gradually rises in spots and of course as all mountains, watch for the roots and rocks. One thing I'd like to mention is that the red trail you see on the directions is correct even though you see a point where it seems to leave the AT (just over a mile in) and goes down the mountain on a new path. I'm guessing the AT got re-marked along the way and maps haven't caught up. I saw what appears to be the old trail at the bottom where the red line meets back up with it. Parking is just a little bit to the right of the trail head, small area but enough to probably hold 5 cars, not that many probably drive to this section. I ran into several thru hikers and a couple day hikers like myself and an AT section hiker.
Amazing hike with our 10, 8 and 4 year old to gorgeous lake for swimming right off the cabin docks! Few pointers. If you look up goose pond as we did or take directions from this app, it takes you to goose pond road and the boat launch. Otherwise 5 miles past Lee outlet malls (right from 7 onto 20) and parking lot on right - "Jacob scenic ladder trail" signs- hike into woods and over I-90 to upper goose pond. We veered off white marked Appalachian trail last .5 miles to right in direction of goose pond cabin and spend time on docks there.
i did a 2 mile hike in to upper goose pond with my sons who are ages 8 and 6 and had a blast. we spent the night at a designated camping site and hiked back the next morning. there was convenient parking along rt20 and a beautiful area to go swimming. it was an amazing adventure !!!!
