Park in the rest area and with your back to the road, walk left towards the forest. There is an opening in the fence where the trail begins.

The trail is well marked in the beginning with Taconic Crest blue blazes then gets a bit sporadic. The snow hid the trail at times and icy spots. There wasn't enough snow for snowshoes but ice cleats would have been helpful and would have eliminated a few wipeouts.

Overall it's a nice and relatively easy rolling (see contour map) hike loop.
