nice day. temp started in the 40s which helped melt some of the snow and get me back to hiking on dry ground.

Must be January- even the mud feels like rock. Grey and cold but I knew that when I embarked, so no fault of this faultless trail.

clear day, above freezing, but winds at Beaufort 6-7, easily 25-30 mph.

trail was great, two days of 50 degree rain got rid of the snow and I could hike on terra firma again. A bit crowded, tho.

snowy, little icy, Eve before Christmas Eve hike. glad to have the crampons in some sections glad to have the tracking poles in all of them. because there are so many cross-country skiers and snowshoers, the trail gets pretty packed down and slippery but at least I'm not breaking fresh powder.

thanks to whomever cleaned oak leaves off the Nobscot trails (Knox Council?). What a difference!

I've been complaining all week about oak leavers underfoot but they are so much worse when wet.

Trail conditions are great except for all the oak leaves. Oak trees make great ships, great firewood, and inspiring symbols of strength. However, freshly fallen oak leaves also make for treacherous footing. Thought I would break 1k in elevation, but just missed it.

Watch out for slippery wet leaves, but you know what you are in for on a day like this. had the place all to myself, FWIW.

Lots of exposed root, rock, and pine leaves — potential tripping/slipping hazards. Lovely walk, lightly trafficked, easy to accommodate social distancing.
