Getting There

This is a social trail and not officially maintained. This is a trek over impressive sand dunes to the beach. Walking up and down the sandy dunes can be fairly challenging especially on a hot day but you'll be able to cool off with a swim once you reach the beach across the dunes.

Three parking spots are available off Route 6. Although signs mark parking as prohibited along the highway you can also park nearby on Snail Rd

Mind blowing beautiful. Sand is fairly hard to walk in. Your heart will pump a bit. So worth it.

Beautiful walk through the dunes, to the beach. Saw whales breaching, back along a trail through the shacks. Finished with a wine tasting at Truro vineyards.

Stunning views of dunes and the beach. Incredible landscape and fascinating huts you walk by. We did this barefoot and it seemed to be the best approach. It took 25/30 minutes to get to the beach, so with stops it was about 1.5 hours. Well worth it!

This is a beautiful short trail with spectacular views of undulating dunes and beachgrasses. Go early to avoid crowds for the best experience (and pictures). This is an easy trail for experienced hikers, but might be more moderate for some if you are not used to walking uphill.

This trail was gorgeous. Stunning sand dunes, rolling fields of grass, and the deep blue sea at the end. Dramatic and brutal in the summer heat, just the way Kerouac and Tennessee Williams and the other artists who have stayed in the shacks would like it. It’s a great trail to contemplate life and experience peace and solitude. I wouldn’t call it easy though, especially in the summer. Trekking through sand, with no shade, was kind of tough. Wouldn’t recommend unless you’re somewhat fit. Go early. Also, the beach at the end was swarming with black biting flies, so don’t expect a refreshing swim.

I simply loved this trail. Probably between easy and moderate - climbing hills in ankle deep sand is tiring! We went on a coolish sunny day and thought the dunes were stunning. Worth every climb. No markers until you get close to the beach but easy to follow well traveled trails.

We went off the suggested trail a little and ended up on a completely private area of the beach which was perfection!!!!

Wow. Went in morning before fog lifted so we weren’t too hot. The dunes go on and on. It’s short but not especially easy due to the shifting sand. Still so worth it. Saw seals playing in water. For the hike back the fog lifted and though hot, was especially beautiful. Could see both sides of shore from highest dune.

Amazing trail. We did it with 5years old and 9years old children. The kids had a lot of fun in the dunes. It is a short trail, but a bit demanding for the 5years old. The beach is wonderful and we saw seals swimming in the ocean. Do not forget water, sun cream and hat.

Not suitable for anyone younger than 12! This is not an easy hike. Huge hills and and hiking in sand is difficult. Wear shoes and bring lots of water. Sand gets really hot but It is beautiful.

A very beautiful and memorable trail up and down sand dunes. Kids under 11 will likely be worn out, thirsty and hot, but worth it. Hidden artist shacks are along the way and the ocean is at the end.

Perfect dune and beach walk. Takes a little longer than you might guess, and is hot in summer. You can swim at the end if you want to brave the sharks.

Looks like a desert. It has some spectacular views. The hike to the ocean is a bit exhausting but well worth it. Not many people on the trails as of yesterday.

We went on a sunny day in December. Spectacular. Windswept, sunlit dunes with patches of evergreens and grasses rolling off toward the blue sea. Glorious solitude. Temperature was in the 30s but we were plenty warm because of the sun and the hilly trails. Loved it!
