Lovely trail, with the following demerits: - Very few actual views - perhaps best attempted in Mar-Apr or late in the season without the obstruction of foliage. - Happened to be exceptionally buggy the day I hiked it with my 11 and 12 year olds, capped by a bee sting. - We did the “triangle” of ascending up Phelps, cutting “south” along Taconic Crest, then descending down Mills Hollow. Phelps, while never impossibly steep, is a pretty unrelenting 1.9 mile climb from the valley floor. - Mills Hollow dumps you out about 0.5 miles from the Phelps trailhead / parking lot, precipitating a fairly uninspiring slog along Oblong Rd. - All-in, it’s nearly 5 miles to complete the loop and end up back in the Phelps trailhead parking lot. I would rate this an advanced intermediate trail, especially if you have kids in tow.

Really nice trail. A little challenging for the first mile or so, but then very pleasant. Took closer to 2hr15min.

I really enjoyed this hike. I have always heard about Phelps Trail and today finally got to enjoy it. The terrain was very easy going considering the elevation involved. The trail was well marked, and offered one great view of Mt Greylock!! The opportunity for some really great pictures was abundant! The beautiful greenery surrounded us everywhere we turned. I particularly noticed the beauty of all the ferns throughout our journey! All and all the trail was beautiful!!

Wonderful trail, the Phelps part is like walking on carpet, so soft. I added going up to Berlin Mountain, which also was an comfortable hike. I hike the first time by myself, and felt I could manage just fine. Great view towards Mt. Greylock at the top. And the best part: birds and bird song all the way.

A couple downed trees from recent storm. Steep ascent up Phelps - tough on the asthma. Descent down Mills fairly easy on the knees. Lots of dead leaves make for some slippery spots. GREAT views at the top once you hit Taconic. A nice place to rest after that steep climb!

What a lovely hike! Didn't have any expectations, nor had I ever heard of this hike, and I was pleasantly surprised! Not many views, but if you turn around going up Phelps at perfect times you will see Greylock in her glory! A pretty dry trail. You go up and up and up until you hit the Tacinic Crest Trail. Very well marked loop!!

Trails were in good condition. Not much mud really, Phelps up was completely dry. The crest trail had some wet spots here and there.

Our intention was to just take an easy walk on A country road, Oblong Road was my destination. I knew it was a nice level country road, and that’s what I had the energy to do today , a nice easy stroll on a country road! Anyway, Shelley and I ended up checking out Mills hollow Trail and Phelps Trail. Both trailheads were accessible from Oblong Road. I never knew where Phelps Trail was, now I know. Both trails lead to Taconic Crest Trail. Definitely going to return to hike both of them to the Taconic Crest and carry on to the Snowhole! We had some Awesome views of the Mt Greylock Range and the Hopper!

I did this in a steady rain and enjoyed the sound of the rain on the trees. It’s a steady upgrade from the parking area to the Taconic trail. The trail Ed is good the whole way up.

Great hike for people with me problems. Pretty steep going up, but really easy on the knees coming down. Not much in the way views.

I would call it a work out hike! Straight up and straight down also pretty muddy! But that said outstanding views at the top made it all worth while!

Really nice hike! Phelps is a fairly steep trail but not very Rocky, still hikeable rather than climbable. Mills Hollow going down is a lot more gradual. The Taconic Crest trail at the summit is really beautiful and scenic, like a sunny orchard. The entire loop took us about 2 hours and 9 minutes, that's including water breaks, and stopping for a photo or several! Great views of Mt Greylock from the farm opposite the parking area. And some very friendly and vocal cows!!
