Pegan Hill Loop is a 2.8 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Natick, Massachusetts that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
Ample parking on Pegan Lane in Natick at trailhead. Start up trail then go right toward Mumford Forest (across dirt road then into field near farm). Stay to right to do the "Mumford Loop" which ends at the Charles River Link Trail. Go left then a quick right up to Lewis Hill which brings you back to the Dover side of Pegan Lane. Very nice views from the top of Lewis Hill. Follow road downhill looking for trailhead on the left. Follow this trail up to the summit of Pegan Hill (410') which is about 50' off trail to the left and marked with a USGS marker. Continue on trail down to parking lot.
Snowy conditions made for a slower hike. But this place is beautiful. Wide open vistas to the north and west. Views of Monadnock range and Wachusett. The farm on the hillside is picture perfect New England. And the hill has quite a history dating to the 17th century. Looking forward to coming back and seeing the meadows in summer.
Great trail. Partner undergoing chemo in Boston and I decided to access All Trails to pass the time. Terrific beautiful trail to clear my head during this time of stress.
A wonderful walk. The pure loop without deviating is about 1.5 miles. A fair number of people and dogs on the trail. It's very well marked.
Great walk to Pegan and Lewis Hill and view of Lookout Farm cidery.
It was clearly marked until I got to the hill and one thing led to another and I ended up way off the trail.
fun hike but I can see where, after rain it could be very muddy at times
A lovely, easy trail. The forested areas are pretty and the views in the fields are especially nice. Not very heavily trafficked. On a perfect Saturday afternoon I passed maybe 5 other people. I was a little concerned by the extensive reports of mud, but after a couple of rain-free days it was difficult to find much mud anywhere on the trail and I didn't have any concerns about my dog hopping into the car afterwards.
Beautiful hike. Picnic in the partially mowed meadow was great fun, and it is not too crowded due to limited parking so easy to maintain social distance. Trails in the Mumford Forest section were quite muddy and a trail that is featured on the map as looping through Mumford Forest petered out into swamp, and after a lot of muddy bushwhacking we had to retreat (but it was squishy fun!!)
The lowest elevation portion of the trail, below the field, is very muddy and difficult to navigate
I would not recommend the narrow trails in the time of Covid-19. You could space out in the fields though. the parking lot was small but that was fine. Again, I only have negative feelings because it is hard to distance from others on the trail. Otherwise, it seems like a nice place to walk. Seeing the peach and apple fields nearby was quite wonderful.
