beautiful hiking today
Footing good today. Mostly frozen ground. Very little snow and ice on trails.
Beautiful day in these snowy woods. Trails have seen some use. Lots of packed snow and ice. Microspikes are very helpful here today.
A little disappointed. Might have been two stars but there was a great view from the bluff just below the summit. The hill itself was a challenging climb. For experienced mountaineers maybe not, but for me the Pierce trail seemed a long, steep slog. Mostly disappointed with the campground feel and the mess of radio towers and fences at the summit. Walked by/through a bunch of cabins/camp sites. For a quieter, more natural environment, I’d suggest nearby Tippling Rock which has a similar view.
Been hiking here 30 years now and pretty much know the forest. I would suggest a map though. There are lots of lefts of rights so you really have to pay attention. I would have given it 5 stars if it wasn’t for that. Great vistas like Tippling Rock and fire tower cliff offer views of Boston. There’s a bit of history in those woods also including a Small Pox Cemetery. Depending on the trails you choose some have challenging hills, but others offer a simple stroll with small cabins and flowing streams throughout the woods. Dogs must be leashed if you bring your furry friend. Enjoy !!!
