Mount Ward Trail to Summit is a 2.1 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Marlborough, Massachusetts that features a great forest setting and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from March until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
This hike is one of those urban gems - the chance to feel like you're in deep woods while you're in the center of an urbanized area. Added bonus is the loop to the summit of Mt. Ward, really just a large hill, which gives you some elevation gain for extra exercise, and has a pleasant bench under a curious-looking old maple tree at its summit. This version of the trail starts and ends from a nice little parking area with a trailhead map station. You'll find the trailhead parking on the driveway just to the left of the Alltop Mobile gas station on Rt. 20 (Boston Post Road) across from The Home Depot and Dunkin Donuts.
Nice trail. It was kind of hard to find the entrance via gps. Once we found the. Trail it was relaxing to walk. We were the only people there. The elevation of this “MT” is not more than a slight incline. Anyone can do it there was a cool maple tree at the top.
Great little hike, absolutely no one else there today. Loved finding the amazing gnarly tree at the top.
A bit overgrown, and the trail is currently covered in fallen leaves, which makes the trail slightly harder to navigate. The fall colors are gorgeous!
Was a good trail but definitely wish I had snow shoes today. when the snow is 6+ inches like it was today they definitely would have helped.
Fairly overgrown in spots with swarms of gnats. Will revisit during cooler temps
I did this in the winter when the whole thing was snowy. It was easy enough and pretty in the snow, and it wasn’t hard to keep to the trail. But there really wasn’t much to see but houses so that was kind of a bummer :-(
Easy hike with well marked trails. I shared the trail only with a flock of wild turkeys. There were many fresh deer tracks and the old stone border walls Massachusetts is known for. The summit doesn’t offer much in views, but at the top sits an amazingly big, old Maple tree.
