Walked up to trail head from Cosy Corner Motel by Hey 7 in Williamstown. Easy walking but not difficult to get off track. Lost GPS signal in places and recent clearance operations have removed trees with trail markers at Southern end of first section. Would invest in better map/GPS next time.

The trail is nicely maintained and marked, and there are some very nice views at the top of the meadow as well as interesting trees and whatnot in the wooded areas. The recent rain made parts of the trail particularly wet for our outing today, but it was not terrible. There is ample parking (Williamstown Side on Mason Road), which is always a plus.

Nice hike on a bluebird day in July with my two young daughters (9 and 7 years). Beautiful mountain meadow with great vista views of Taconic and Greylock ranges. Also Forrest hike includes a summit (no view from summit due to trees). Many maples, oaks and pines with fern ground cover. There are three different trails in the preserve and all three need not be done. (Niles, summit and Loop is what the signage says). There is also an entrance on Mass side at end of gravel road (Mason road) off rte 7.

Nice parking. Well maintained. Nice wooded trail and open meadow trail. Challenging run. Nice walk with dog. Beautiful view in meadow at sunset. No view at summit.
