A nice afternoon hike hitting all the main attractions on the western side of the Taconic Highlands.

Completed this hike about a couple of weeks ago. This is highpoint #18 for me. The trail was quite straight forward and well marked. I wouldn’t say the rock scrambling is any difficult, but just watch out if it’s wet. Views on the trail were quite impressive, but just unfortunate there is no view on the actual summit. Overall a great beginner hike that adds just enough of a challenge to feel like the Connecticut highpoint was deserved.

Hiked 10/12/19. Other than a little bit of a sweat at the walk up (counter clockwise as indicated by many) this was easy. Not much views to speak of at the highest point, but a nice picnic slope overlooking the Catskills and several nice lookouts on the way up. Glad I came right around peak colors. The walk down from the flagpole was a bit rocky, but it that soon gave way to an easy and quick stroll. Taking my time this took around 3 hours or less. Tacked on Bash Bish Falls not too far up the road for a lovely day. Parking gets a bit limited, so recommend getting there early.

Well marked trails. First 2+ miles involved climbing and a few rock scrambles. Needed to give our Shepard a butt boost to get her up one scramble. Hiked after mist of the leaves were gone Also rained earlier in the week. Still, views were great. There were 2 parts of the hike where it was like walking in a creek. Hint: waterproof boots. Really enjoyed it. Mario’s restaurant in Nrw Lebanon is very good.

10.22.19. A fine hike. Going counter-clockwise around this loop, it takes in a trio of peaks, Round, Frissell, and Brace. The views from the first and last of these are magnificent. This route also means you’ll be hiking in three states, CT, NY, and MA, which one doesn’t do every day. I agree with the moderate rating, although the climbing for the first 1.2 miles or so is quite stiff. Here are my stats: Distance: 5.4 miles Elevation Gain: 1,001 feet Moving Time: 2:09:27

Agree with other reviews... hike this counterclockwise. Fun rock scrambles. Beautiful views on the way up Round Mtn. Trails are well marked until you get to the Tri- State monuments: then there are no more trail blazes, but you can see the narrow trail. Great views worth the extra short hike up Brace Mtn. The last part of the hike is an easy walk through the peaceful woods then down the dirt road. As to the review that you can't wear shorts: in this part of the country with all the ticks and Lyme disease, you should wear pants and check for ticks after hiking. Georgeous day.

The best way to do this trail is definitely counterclockwise. Wear sturdy shoes and best to do this trail when it’s dry since the rocks get slippery if it’s rained. Some very narrow areas with branches that’ll rub against you so best to wear long pants and a shirt. Probably a beautiful view at the top but we didn’t get to see it since it was so foggy. Very scenic during the fall!

Some pretty steep stuff to start, my little dog couldnt figure a way around the big rocks so i had a to carry her much of the way. Eases up quite a bit after the first few miles. It started raining when we were up there and dangerously slippery at times. 2nd half was a flat and easy. Fun time overall!

A friend and I hiked this 5 mile loop today. The first part becomes pretty steep on an overgrown narrow rocky trail but once you get to the top it becomes more open. The trail is wider and easier on the way down The last mile is mostly a dirt road. The views are worth the trip. Only saw three other hikers. Much more people seemed to doing Bear Mountain today judging from overfill parking lots we passed on the way. We were glad to be on this trail.

Did the counter clockwise loop, the ascents were a bit dicey after a heavy rain, but the beautiful views more than made up for it. Ran out if time, will have to do the Taconic next time.

Do this counterclockwise because there are two steep rock inclines at two different headwalls that would be treacherous the opposite direction. It is heavily traveled for the awesome views. Most of the red blazed trail is very narrow with branches scraping your legs. The descent down the mt brace trail is all loose rocks, then you are faced with a mile and a half on a dirt road. I would use the taconic trail to access these views next time.

Rocky, wear good footwear. Trails could use some care, getting overgrown. Markers could be repainted, closer to the NY side. Good trail overall. Some rocks were slippery too

Interesting hike. Bear Mountian to Brace Mountain was really enjoyable, but the trail is really over grown in spots. Heading back from Brace was a little underwhelming but made for an easy fast decent. I am planning on coming back to run this loop.. I would recommend this one.
