Tips

A nice afternoon hike hitting all the main attractions on the western side of the Taconic Highlands.

The trailhead is located on Mt. Washington Rd. at the border with CT. If you're looking for a trailhead board, there is none. There is room to park several cars at the start and a couple more across from it or just down 50 feet is another area designated for parking.

Very nice, great views! Last mile or so is a dirt road. The mile before that was a flooded out trail.

HikingGreat!

Nice relatively easy hike. Trail was in good shape, must have recently snowed but I thi k that help with matting down the leaves. Some wet spots but easy to navigate. Last leg is on a dirt road which I wasn't expecting.

Did the loop counterclockwise at 5am. Going up to Mt Frissell was slow due to the dark and wet leaves on the uphill section. The trails from the trailhead over to Mt Frissell and over to the main intersection for Brace Mtn were nice single track that doesn't have a lot of wear. From Brace Mtn back to the trailhead wasn't as fun. The first part is a fire road that connects to Mt Washington Road which is just a smooth hard pack dirt road and kind of boring to walk on.

I completed this yesterday, and it was one of my favorite hikes. I definitely wouldn’t consider this a tough one, but the leaves made it a bit difficult to not slide during rock scrambles. There were so many scenic viewpoints, standing at the spot where CT, NY, and MA meet was awesome, and we even got to watch people paraglide off the top of Brace Mountain. Highly recommend!

Great trail with several scenic views. Gradients on Round Mt and Mt Frissell are tough. Recommended.

Awesome fall views. Easily marked (red trail) A couple of steep inclines which made for a good workout. But a little slippery on the way back with the leaves everywhere. Enjoy

Frissell's summit has no view, but there are still lots of awesome vantage points throughout the hike to see the colorful fall foliage/views.A little muddy and rocky right after Brace Mountain and the end was a walk on the dirt road. Great hike overall.

HikingScramble

Went this weekend (10/17) and the leaves were at their peak colors, which made for a beautiful hike. The trail at points was really narrow and it smelled funny almost the entire time, but we think that was because it had rained the day before. The rock scrambles in the beginning were challenging but fun! Parts were slippery because of the previous day’s rain, so we had to go slow and carefully at times. We didn’t see many other hikers even though we did this on a Saturday afternoon, so I’d recommend this hike if you want to avoid crowds!

Loved this trail. Some rocky climbs in the first part of the trail, up Round Mountain and Mount Frissell. Lovely foliage along Mt Washington Road on the trip back to the parking lot and fabulous views from Brace Mountain.

Hiking

This is an easy to moderate loop trail, with some amazing views, and some fun points of interest, like the highest point in Connecticut, and the 3 way state line (NY, CT, MA). The funnest part, and the most challenging, is the steep ascent to Mt. Frissell. It is some scrambling, but nothing too crazy. There is no view at the summit of Mt. Frissell, but there are plenty of other points that offer great views. The view from Brace Mountain is also amazing. We did the loop in 3 hours, with about 1 hour to reach the first summit. Parking lot was very full, and trail was very heavily trafficked today.
