Tips

A nice afternoon hike hitting all the main attractions on the western side of the Taconic Highlands.

The trailhead is located on Mt. Washington Rd. at the border with CT. If you're looking for a trailhead board, there is none. There is room to park several cars at the start and a couple more across from it or just down 50 feet is another area designated for parking.

The American Flag on top of Brace is torn in half and needs to be replaced if anyone feels like bringing a new flag with them

Pretty overgrown between Frissell and Brace. Nice hike though and the mountain laurel is starting to bloom beautifully.

6/17. Hike with incredible view from Brace Mountain the only downside to it, is the trail is very overgrown and narrow which makes it hard to see the trail below you, so you run the risk of tripping on rocks in the trail. The scrambles were steep and fun but in my opinion the hardest part was walking in the overgrown parts running the risk of spraining your ankle.

Hiked 6/16/2020: Wonderful hike with spectacular views. Hiking through three states it’s pretty cool. Definitely recommend going counterclockwise, you get the steep parts first and then get a nice walk back to the trailhead in a rocky but mostly flat terrain. Some of the scrambles take some maneuvering, but it’s definitely doable and super fun. My small chihuahua/Jack Russell Terrier mix had the best time hoping and jumping up and down rocks. It took just over 4 hours, the weather was perfect, only saw one other person during the 4 hours.

Great trail! CT’s high point and a hike through 3 states - awesome. As most people said, after you reach Brace the loop back is just access roads. You could just turn around and go back the way you came for the same distance. Views between Frissell Peak and CT High Point are beautiful, but Brace has the best!

Wonderful hike with amazing views. We did the loop going counterclockwise. I would recommend, once you summit Brace Mountain, turn around and head back. Most of the loop trail back is walking down the road and gets very boring.

Great trail, not too heavily trafficked in the AM. Beautiful wildflowers and spectacular views. Bugs were minimal.

First half is really nice hitting three summits and a pretty outcropping. The back half of the loop is boring as hell. They should really cut a new trail with some more to see. The scrambles are short but tough, made it really fun on the way up. This hike was easy with hard parts so appropriately rated as moderate. Idk about dogs or small kids on the scrambles. Summit of Brace is lovely and open. It was a little crowded today.

Not every day you can hike in 3 states at once. A bit of hoisting yourself over some rocks until you get to the top of Frissel. Brace Mountain is a quick, easy detour. Did the full loop with my 53 year old mother in 3 hours and passed a four year old girl on the way. If they can do it, so can you.

Great hike hitting 3 peaks in 3 states. Like others have mentioned, if you go counter clockwise, you’ll ascend a steep scramble about 1/2 mile in. Easier going up that than down, especially when it’s slippery. Great views from Round and Brace Mtns. You’ll miss the summit of Frissell if you’re not looking for it, as there’s no view whatsoever.
