Don't let the beginning of this trail fool you into thinking it is going to be a struggle all the way. Once you get past the short rocky section the trail surface improves dramatically. This trail does not appear to be maintained although at one time someone did take the time to build some bridges and place a few blazes. The other major problem with this area is a tornado passed through the middle of the area causing the trails to end abruptly. This also makes the trails difficult to follow in some places. But in spite of that, it is a beautiful area. When I first hiked it the mountain laurel was in full bloom making the woods pop with white and pink. I saw evidence of deer and bear and many bird songs I really need to learn to identify. There are rock outcroppings and ledges that I would be tempted to climb if I was quite a bit younger and lighter. I am looking forward to going back here after the leaves have dropped to see what might be hidden in these woods.
