King Phillips Woods Extended Loop is a 2 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Sudbury, Massachusetts that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking and nature trips and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
The trail to the right of the head was washed out preventing the intended loop. The trail on the far left was not well marked and requires bushwacking. The backside trails were great!
Out here by myself. Other than some car noise, very quiet. Not much to see right now. Hard to follow some of the trails due to lots of leaves and poor marking.
I nice little hike, but the beginning of the path, to the West, was flooded. Taking the path East, along the road, was pretty over grown and hard to follow. For the most part, the trail was pretty obvious, but the trail was not always clearly marked, and if you're not paying attention, you might take some of the shortcut trails.
Skinny trails, single file. Had to avoid the trail around the lake due to flooding and one part of the trail (northern part) was overgrown and impassable
Lovely short walk with mild ups and downs. Lots of stone walls and large pines. Some pretty views.
These trails are not well maintained. Had to bushwack parts. If you stay on the maintained trails it is a nice walk in the wood
The main trail is pretty nice walk in the woods. But many of the connectors or side trails, as others have mentioned, are nearly nonexistent once you get a few paces into them. They disappear into tree-fall and dense undergrowth. I tried to bushwack and use the map to find trail remnants but that was pretty useless. You pretty quickly get far enough away from 27 to lose the traffic noise, so that was nice.
No trail markers on part of trail. It was especially hard to see the path with snow on the ground and no one else had been through. Lots of deer prints, they actually knew the path! The trail head off Fieldstone Farm Road started through people’s backyards, a little weird.
The main loop is fairly well maintained and easy to follow, but most of the little side trails are now abandoned and there is little trace of them. Some looked promising but ended up terminating into dense woods with no sign of any trail. I ended up bushwhacking a few times to find the main trail again. Sometimes there are little yellow arrows to point you away from abandoned trails but other times you have to use your instincts. The part of the loop that is still maintained is quite nice, raising this trail from one star to three.
