Cave is weak. Nice hike down to it and away from it, but it's underwhelming. The view up top is amazing, save it for last. Go clockwise around the loop to let the view be the payoff.

Very nice hike. A couple inches of wet snow made going down hill difficult, but some nice lookout views Made it worth while. Not another person on the trail! I'll definitely do it again.

You can get to the vista with a very flat 3mi RT. Worthwhile hike, very few people, easy trail to follow.

HikingGreat!

Immediately loved the trail. So soft and spongy under my paws from layers and layers of white pine needles, moss and leaves. Starts off for a mile on the M&M trail. No traffic noise! Then down to Erving Castle (Hermit Cave). In case you miss the sign, the Angry Chipmunk Chorale will let you know when you've reached Hermit Cave. Didn't see anyone until the viewpoint at the top. Trail was so well marked (like a marker on every other tree), even my mom didn't get lost which always happens and we end up hiking double what we are supposed to. Although.....she initially went down the road past the No Trespassing sign thinking that was the entrance to the trail. For the entrance to the trail make a right out of the parking lot and look right. A little trash in the parking lot which my mom picked up but none on the trail.

Nice walk, moderate difficulty. Trail is well marked. Less traveled trail, I only saw a few groups on a Saturday late morning hike. I recommend going counterclockwise around the loop portion as otherwise you hit the steep parts going down. Vista is beautiful at the overlook.

The trailhead is on the main road to the left of where you'd park when pulling in. Great medium hike. Very well marked, only one steep part. I saw 1 family my entire trip and almost no road noise. I added some length via the M&M trail because I was looking for a bit longer hike, which was very easy to do. I didn't record the whole thing, so don't go by my numbers.

HikingGreat!

The parking area seems like you’re in the wrong place because of the no trespassing signs. But the trailhead is to the left on the road. I’ve seen the cave before coming from the other direction but decided this looked like a nice loop. We decided to take a left and go down the steep part and go up the more gradual part. This seemed to be a mistake because I fell going down the steep part and broke my ankle and tore a ligament. So just a heads up watch out for loose dirt. It was just a fluke accident though. Great trail, will definitely come out and do it again and hopefully get to finish it.

HikingGreat!

Has a couple nice viewpoints and a few other interesting features. Don't expect an elaborate cave, but the rock formation containing the cave is awesome to look at. A decent workout coming up the switchbacks after seeing the cave. A worthwhile hike if you're in the area.
