Gooseberry Neck is a 1.5 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Westport Point, Massachusetts. The trail is good for all skill levels and is primarily used for hiking, walking, and running. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Drive down the jetty to a sandy parking lot (lots of parking) where there's a beach and fishing. The outer walk around the island is super rocky but manageable. There's also a trail through the brush down the middle of the island.
Nice day for a walk along the shore. Very windy, but fun. Beach is rocky so wear sturdy shoes
pros: beautiful, solitude, seaside cons: snow+ice+sand+mud+shells (bring good boots), open ocean air is cold and when the sun goes behind clouds the windchill is FRIGID I've hiked this in the summer and wanted to try it in the winter and it was better than expected. Plan for a longer open air trail because the causeway to the island is closed for the winter. This is def a plus though because it means less people, and hiking through the island with all the snow right around sunset was truly magical. Just make sure you have good boots and good layers and its a great late day/sunset walk/hike.
It is actually called the Healthy trail. Very picturesque, stroller friendly
Great little trail on the ocean. Rocky but still excellent.
Beautiful! Slightly overgrown at the far end - check for ticks.
Nice beach hike, a bit rocky at some points. Not too busy early in the morning.
Drive down the jetty to a sandy parking lot (lots of parking) where there's a beach and fishing. We love this spot because you can take the dog all over and it's generally not too busy. The outer walk around the island is super rocky but manageable. There's also a trail through the brush down the middle of the island. We bring our retriever here to swim and he can't get enough!
Great walk along the rocky shoreline with Zane. It was 42 degrees and the wind was blowing pretty hard as is normal here so it was refreshing to say the least. Lots of stuff washed ashore including many lobster pots and an insane amount of plastic. We really need to take better care of our only livable planet. Despite the beach litter, this is a great spot for a short, scenic walk with your dog.
