A short trail parallels Route 5 northward from the entrance to the location of the dinosaur footprints. Easy walking. Imagine small herds of dinosaurs on the shore of a shallow tropical lake as you enjoy a real, up-close look at their fossilized prints, left in sandstone to spur our wonder.

Such a neat little spot. Preserved foot prints on the bank of the Connecticut river.

The dinosaur tracks at this site were among the first to be scientifically described in 1836, and are still visible to visitors. Hundreds of tracks, which were made by as many as four distinct types of two-legged dinosaur, are present in the sandstone outcrops. Additional fossils that have been found at the site or nearby include invertebrate burrows, fish, and plants (including charcoalified logs and leaves). The parallel orientation of many of the dinosaur trackways was among the first lines of evidence used to support the novel theory that dinosaurs traveled in packs or groups.

Great educational opportunity! Bring your camera and kids on this very easy path to see dinosaur footprints. There are signs with information about the history of the area in both English and Spanish. Parking area is small and hard to see, it's on the side with the river. Watch out, the rock face with the footprints is very slippery when wet.

Can't qualify this as hiking more like an easy walk. Wood chip path to the dinosaur footprints. Perfect for little ones. For adults follow the path down to the tracks, cross the tracks and you'll be at the shore. Look up to the left for spectacular mountain views and to the right for river and pine trees.
