Amazing.. even with throngs of people in the packed parking lot and on the canal path below I had most of the trail as a lovely solo (plus doggo) experience. Pretty single track with that stretches out in a long inviting line. A small loop near the beginning gives you the option of returning on the opposite end of loop for a bit of fun. Tons of poison ivy.. currently in its dark reddish hue so easier to spot before goes to green in summertime.

This trail is the best of both worlds. You get the feel of being in the woods along with scenic views of the canal. It is a bit buggy and there is some poison ivy around, but as long as you wear spray and watch where you are walking, all is good! Great scenic hike and my dog loved it too! The All Trails Description of this trail lists it as 4.7 miles, but the actual start of the trail by the Herring Run to the end of the trail at the gate to Bourne Scenic campground is only 1.5 miles. I clocked this out and back trail at 3 miles. You could continue on walking on the paved canal bike path for additional mileage.

This trail is always quiet when I’m here. I’ve never seen more than two other people. It’s relatively flat but also has walkways and stairs down to the main canal path at various points so you don’t have to walk the same ground both directions.

So close to activity and yet pretty secluded! Watch out for poison ivy.

Loved the history plaques that were scattered throughout the trail, they were a nice touch. Otherwise, it’s a very short loop (1mi) (there is a longer option - it goes to scenic park) that doesn’t offer much challenge. Perhaps it would look prettier in other seasons. Dog friendly which is

This is a nice trail in a beautiful spot, but it runs along the road and the constant roar of traffic detracted from an otherwise beautiful scene. We ended up moving down onto the bike path along the canal and it was a bit more enjoyable. The trail is well maintained and has nice, informative signs about the vegetation and history of the area.

I really enjoyed this trail. It doesn't take much time, so it's great if you just want to get out for an hour or two. The trail itself is not hard at all, some hills, and different terrain you walk on.

This trail runs next to the canal service road in the woods from the Herring Run to Bourne Scenic Park Campground. Seldom used by anyone. Has a great steep hill to climb. Dogs welcome. Great views of the canal from the trail. We use it often.

A nice trail system with constant views. It is part loop and part out and back. It was a beautiful fall day for a walk.
