Tips

This is a great, family-friendly, paved walk around a causeway to a historic fort that you won't want to miss. This is a very beautiful area just south of Boston. You will walk around an enclosed bay past a beach, a WWII memorial and then to one of the country's most famous forts which was built to defend the city of Boston. The lawn around the fort is also perfect for a picnic lunch. Keep your eye out for planes overhead (close overhead) from Logan airport as well as kiteboarders zooming around in the bay. Accessibility: The trail surface is paved and typically at least six feet wide. The terrain is gentle, all estimated a 3% grade or less. It will likely be navigable for most wheelchair and stroller users.

Follow William J Day Blvd from South Boston to the Castle Island area and parking lot.

Come here during the sunset! Amazing sunset over the water, but stay for another 20-30mins when the sun past the horizon, as there tends to be amazing haze of red.

Lovely view, but more people leisuring about versus walking and taking in the scenes. If you can get over the crowd worth the walk.

I love this walk (or jog) because it’s lovely & easy to get to- any age or ability can enjoy it- it is 100% accessible in all areas. Sometimes it’s fun to watch the kite surfers if it’s a breezy day- they’re amazing. FYI: Friday evenings are packed with folks- from families bbqing to hot rods collecting- it’s a fantastic hive of life. Parking is free and tends to be easy. It has state park bathrooms during sunlight hours (24/7 portapotties if you’re willing.) You can swim at the beach, fish on the harbor side along the rocks, off the wall or on the dock. Dogs are plentiful and on leash. It is in no way a solitary experience- folks are pretty good about masks given its a city rule. Bikes are not allowed (it’s crowded with walkers) but fools bike through, so be careful as I have seen people get hit by riders zooming around the peds of all ages & abilities (frustrating.) Luckily there are not a ton of bikes.

Great loop with lots of scenery. Beautiful ocean view, great breeze on a hot day, food at Sullivan’s on the walk, what more could you ask for? Takes about an hour to walk around and is definitely one of my favorite trails
