Park at the Kendrick Street lot or at Millenium Park. Some of the 'trail' is on the road to complete the loop, and at times it takes some patience to pick up the Blue Heron signs when it weaves in and out of corporate parking lots. Regardless, the majority of the trail is in marshes or wooded areas, and over the course of the 10 miles the terrain changes often enough to keep things interesting! Parts of this trail must not get much use judging by the plants that were starting to encroach.

Lovely trail but if you do not enjoy constant truck noise (from nearby Rte 128) I would walk elsewhere.

Great trail- especially the boardwalks across the marshy areas. Also, part of the trail is on a hill parallel to the highway which is pretty interesting. Overall, I highly recommend this trail.

I'm new to walking trails...this was an easy trail...saw a blue heron, turtle, swans, chipmunks and Canadian Geese. can't wait to explore more

Had an hour free while visiting the area. Perfect trail for running or walking. Circle the lake and go beyond for some extra miles. Saw the Charles river, some small ponds, the large lake, some old structures. Very nice.

April 14th 2018: Circled the marsh and ponds, sat by highway edge. Bridges and interesting features. Trees just budding.

Walk it with my baby daughter! Love to search for crickets on the walking bridge! Also love to stand on the middle of the bridge on a windy day and watch the swamp growth wave in the breeze!

Parked at Kendrick Street parking area then headed south around the Pond. Continued on Blue Heron Trail over to Powell's Island then south again under train tracks to south end of property. Returned via the island then over to the western side of the Blue Heron Trail (which is kind of close to Rt 128). As per the Mass DCR: This 600-acre park protects the largest freshwater marsh on the middle Charles River. This park is a great spot for birdwatchers, and it also features eskers, or riverbeds formed inside a glacier; drumlins, long hills formed by glaciers; and Kendrick pond.

Saturday, October 14, 2017 or go to our channel at: SeeScottandKatieTravel Compilation of our GoPro footage in the link above. This is a nice easy trail, but still a fun ride without being boring. Trails are mainly packed dirt- not much sand/gravel/woodchips. Fun ramp close to the start of the trail, but you can easily go around it. Some obstacles, and some larger root heavy sections. Fun long boardwalk about 1/3 of the way through.

Only 20 min from the city this is a great trail. Beautiful landscapes.

Great trails. Can loop different trails for different distances. A portion runs along side the highway. That was interesting. Then it ducked back into the woods. Found myself alone out there. Lots of miles to explore.

Way too overgrown on the Boardwalk out in the Blue Heron Trail. Lots of poison ivy, stay on the trail. The bugs were relentless. The Healthy Heart Trail is great. Just do that twice, around the same distance.

Followed the Blue Heron trail. Turned after 2.3 miles for a total of 4.6 miles. Very easy walk with very little elevation. Easy jaunt through the woods. Close to highway.

This is a pretty great trail to do when you're out of ideas and don't want to drive far; in the winter (just the pond section), or when the weather is super-nice and flowers are blooming/leaves are turning. You can do a short "Healthy Heart" loop around the pond, or you can do a much longer loop around the river. The west bank is a much nicer trail and features a scenic swamp crossing. Many mountain bikers use this trail, so beware! If you want to do a 6-mile loop, there is an unofficial shortcut across the river using the commuter rail bridge. If you stay on the Blue Heron trail and reach the tunnel under the tracks, take a left and follow the tracks and powerlines for a bit, there will be more swampland to your right. Eventually, you'll reach the river and you'll have to cross the tracks and go downhill through a giant hole in a wire fence (which is probably frowned upon) - that puts you into Newton's Millennium Park. From here you can continue the trail, but it's nothing great - eventually it dumps you into some office parking lots and it's hard to pick it up at times, as the blue heron marks on the pavement have faded with time.

I have been going to cutler for years and I think it is amazing for suburbia. great for kids and at certain seasons breadthtaking.

This was a nice walk with some nice views but nothing really to write home about. I did see lots of families which made sense as it was a very easy trail. Also I didn't have too much trouble with bugs but there are spots of still water next to the trail so I assume at dusk this place would be very buggy. I don't think I'll be returning in a hurry, but it was an alright way to spend an hour or so.

Nice trail to mountain biking. Quite a few people on the trail near parking lot but they thin out as you go in further. Trails along north edge of the river are much more rooted and rough riding, in addition to requiring numerous excursions between trail and paved surfaces.
