This is very quick (30-40mins) but strenuous 1 mile hike, accessible from the Notch parking lot. Take the white blazed Metacomet-Monadnock trail on the ascent to and descent from the summit. Best view to the north, but not as good as Mt Holyoke. This steep trail gives great quick exercise, so it is heavily used. There is no road to the summit, so less crowded than Mt Holyoke or South Sugarloaf.

We arrived at the Notch on a Saturday early afternoon and the place was packed with cars. We hiked to the top of Bare mountain in decent time and continued to hike to the next peak called Hitchcock mountain in about 40 minutes. It had good outcrops for viewing. Then we hiked the red trail southward off the back side of Hitchcock mountain to the yellow trail heading east which lead to the main road back to the parking lot . All and all I figure it was just under 5 miles .I recommend this hike because it goes in a loop and it’s not so short as climbing to the top of Bare mountain then back down

This is a great hike because of it's short distance, combined with steep terrain. Its a doable "after work hike", and experienced hikers can make the round trip in less than 45 minutes. Nevertheless the steep climb will get your lungs and legs burning in no time, you'll really feel like you've accomplished something!

A great hike that is challenging enough to be rewarding, but simple enough to do without spending all day on a mountain. Much better than an hour at the gym!

If you're feeling ambitious, its also a nice sunrise hike. Since the ascent is headed west, the sun will be at your back and you'll have a great view from the top

Short hike, fairly steep and rocky. Decent views at the top. This was my first hike since a knee replacement and it was a little challenging but quite manageable.

Super short hike, moderately steep at some parts. Very rewarding view for such a small effort! I saw many different types of butterflies and birds on the way. Only complaint is that you constantly hear noise from all the trucks at the work site across from the mountain.

I didn't think it was a hard hike, but it definitely was rocky. Fell a couple of times so I would suggest wearing sneakers or hiking boots with a good grip on the bottom. Took my friend and I about 20 minutes to get to the top and the view is simply amazing!

Took a strange way to get to the top of the mountain. I created a odd little 4 mile loop out of it. Great view.
