This is very quick (30-40mins) but strenuous 1 mile hike, accessible from the Notch parking lot. Take the white blazed Metacomet-Monadnock trail on the ascent to and descent from the summit. Best view to the north, but not as good as Mt Holyoke. This steep trail gives great quick exercise, so it is heavily used. There is no road to the summit, so less crowded than Mt Holyoke or South Sugarloaf.

Parking and restrooms at the Notch Visitors Center.

Drive to the Notch on 116 in Amherst.

This is a great hike! It is a bit strenuous in a few areas but has an awesome few at the top with plenty of shaded areas to have a snack.

I really liked this trail, it was a really quick out and back and the view from the summit was beautiful. There were a lot of small branch trails that also had great views, I took my dog and he did really well even on the loose rock areas. The trail did have some steeper parts but it wasn’t too strenuous especially for the short distance.

nice short hike, few spots for some good views. parking lot is kinda small, went on a Friday night and fairly crowded. safe to assume it gets packed on the weekend so go early or later in the day

I love this trail for the view at the top. I would rate it moderate, just because I don’t think it would be good for small children or the average elderly adult looking for a true “easy” hike. There are a couple relatively steep sections, one with lots of small broken rocks to prevent mudslides, and others with boulders you have to take bigger steps up and down onto. But it’s a quick 25 min hike up and good for dogs on leash.

Not labeled to get to the start but Park in the parking lot then cross the street at the cross walk and the trail starts right there! Nice views up top! Short hike for nice and breezy view but going up is very steep and rocky the whole way. If you’re not in shape it will definitely get you tired quick and need a few minute cool down! Watch your footing and be careful. I wouldn’t hike this after a rain storm it would be very slippery going down and up.

Awesome trail, quick but all incline up to top. Good for beginners. Trail is in really good shape, and the views are nice for a Holyoke hike.

I originally wanted to go to rattlesnake knob which j believe is across the street but I asked a few people where it was an nobody knew. Had to park in bare mountain parking because the parking lot for rattlesnake was closed because of covid. Nice little hike up. Went around 5pm heavy traffic. It’s a really rocky hike and there’s a lot of shale rock on the mountain which is to be expected around here. About 2/3 up I veered to the right and started rock climbing. Nothing crazy but fun and spiced up a rather short hike. Guy I talked to at the top said his record for climbing the mountain was 12:30. So a pretty short hike. Spectacular, almost panoramic views from the top. I would recommend it to anyone trying to do a quick hike. Brought the dog with me he’s a blue Heeler so he can do just about anything, probably a better rock climber than me.

I would not call this an "easy" trail. Steep and rocky. Mosquitoes. Great view at the top.
