Historic 469 acre wildlife sanctuary acquired by Hingham through the Federal Lands to Parks Program. The property was used as a Naval training camp and ammunition depot from 1903-1962. Plenty of parking on Bare Cove Park Drive near the Model Railroad Club building. Start south and do a loop around the Back River Path. Opportunities to explore near the shore (Weymouth Back River) or more inland (Bare Cove Park). Then continue north on Bare Cove Path up to the docks and memorial to sailors lost during WWII. Then continue on to the Lincoln Street Bridge and turn back or do the 0.5 mile Stodders Neck just to the north of the bridge. Meander back the same way or jut into the woods to make it more interesting!

Great trail for dogs, kids or bikes saw plenty of all three today. Mostly paved with a few more trail-like off shoots that loop back in. The width helps with social distancing even when passing others, and there’s a few different areas to rest and look at the water!

Terrific trek around the Bare Cove property. Parked in front of the Railroad Clubhouse then went south and did a loop there. I missed some of the river area but encourage others to wander beyond the main paved path and get on the trails. I continued up to the north and really enjoyed the River views and the interpretive signage and memorials which speak to the use of the area by the Navy and Marines. Pretty cool stuff. Went up to the bridge and noticed a huge "fish boil" out in the river. Somebody was getting a good breakfast! Continued back around, off road, following the river then back to the parking lot. A wonderful property!
