About 2.2 miles in (39.55926 N, 77.59532 W) a blue blazed trail will diverge from the A.T., heading east for just a short (<.2 miles) distance to Annapolis Rock, where you will experience some breathtaking views and great opportunities for rock scrambling with the kids!

Agree with the last comment here. This trail description is about the portion of AT south of I-70/Route 40, not north (not going to Annapolis Rock).

Easy to find although parking is tight. Great steady trail with an incline out and gravity doing you favors on the way back. My 9 year old enjoyed it. The rocks feature great views from multiple vantage points. The "waterfall" reference is misleading. Spring from rocks that trickles across the ground. Nice and cool and lovely but falling, not so much...

The description for this trail is a little confusing - If you go south from the parking area along Alt 40 (near Interstate 70) you will end up at Turners Gap. If you go north, you will be heading to Annapolis Rocks. (There is another trail in AllTrails for Annapolis Rocks). Get to the parking lot early since this is a very popular trail and the parking area fills up fast. Along the hike you will come across the Washington Monument (supposedly the first monument erected in honor of George Washington). And at Turners Gap, you will see Dahlgren Chapel - a cute little stone church. If you go an additional mile you will come to Fox Gap where a civil war battle took place. There are some signs explaining the fight and two monuments for the two generals (one from each side) who died during the engagement. This is a fairly easy hike with some interesting things to see along the way.
