We started at the C&O canal and went counter clockwise. My all trails shows 14.1, but it was closer to 13.2. There are sections that very muddy, but most has rocks or walk arounds. The orange side had lots of trees and greenery. There was also a lot of rusted out stuff, tries, cars and fridges. The blue side has lots of open fields. Also the trail on 28 you have to go across the bridge over the trail and then double back to it. Not too crowded and a good variety of sites.

Trail was well marked and clear for the majority of the trail. I saw a few hunters out on the trail and close to it wearing fluorescent colors would be a good idea.

great trail run.

Tons of bugs that fly around your face, and even more spider webs that I ran into almost every 15 seconds or so. After about a third of the way I wanted to be done with it. Not sure of this is a June thing, but I wouldn't go back.

Great hike. Not 12mi, closer to 14mi. Trail is pretty well marked, save for some natural wildlife trails that are a little easy to confuse with the main trail. Just keep an eye out for the blazes. It was pretty muddy too, having rained significantly in the last week. Lots of love went into this trail over the years. It’s very well maintained considering its size. No huge sweeping views or anything, but lots of little intrigue and pretty spots to admire. Plus I burned 2000 calories while I was out there. Keep in mind, tons of ticks, and plentiful snakes. Wear a lot of bug spray, and keep an eye on the path to avoid them.

No amazing views, but the trail was well marked and the wild flowers and steeping stone bridge made this easy trail fun.

This is a great hike with significant variations in the terrain. You walk through meadows and woods, cross the creek by jumping from stone to stone, and climb up and down relatively significant hills. You also get a nice (albeit brief) walk past the C&O canal. The only reason this doesn’t get a 5 is because I like to have some bouldering or scrambling and there really isn’t any on this trail. Also it was very muddy but that’s my own fault for going out in the midst of a wet January. It is a long trail. Not sure if it clocks in as high as the 12.9 miles as posted, but it’s definitely in the double digits.

Did the east side & turned around at Germantown Rd. Excellent 7 miles. Will do the southwest side next time down to upper Potomac.
