This is a great, enjoyable, easy trail to just go for a long walk with your friends. I would love to go back there again. I walked with a friend for 6.5 miles and burned 530 calories. :) Yes, there were many bikers, adults and teens, and folks who walked their pets, but were all respectful of each other...no issues. There are several entrances with parking lots along the trail, which is why there is not a lot of people congregating where we started. We also started earlier at 9 am. By the time we returned to the car around 11 am and the parking lot was full. It was a very enjoyable walk on a beautiful day. It was not muddy at all.

When riding Monkton north great trail until about 5 miles south of PA line. Gets narrow and not well maintained. PA line north is open and well maintained Carry extra water because all water fountains are shut off. Beautiful route but does get crowded on the weekends in summer

This trail is one of my favorites. It can get crowded at times, but if you go in lite rainy weather you will pretty much have the whole thing to yourself. If starting from the Cockeysville end, the crowds usually thin out past Monkton. The only part that I didn’t care for was when the trail lead through downtown York, PA. The trail seemed to vanish amongst all the sidewalks, and it took me about an extra 10 mins (with the help of this app) to get back on track. This trail is perfect for fat tire ebikes. It took me about 5-6 hours to ride the entire 96 miles up and back.

Edit: This speaks to the first several miles starting at Paper Mill. I’ve had similar experiences at Monkton but will try further north in the future. Absurdly crowded - but nice place for a walk and very family friendly. A bike and stroller jungle. Be prepared to share the trail with many slow moving toddlers. I saw a turtle!

Love this trail! Great for long distance bike riding. So scenic with old farms and beautiful streams. It’s nice in the summer too because it’s mainly shaded. It can be rather muddy so plan to go when it hasn’t rained much.

Best to get there at sunrise if you start at Paper Mill. Less crowded the closer you get to PA. Two water stops— Monkton and New Freedom.

Excellent if you are looking to log mileage and maintain a consistent biking pace. Crushed and packed surface, well shaded. Parallels the Gunpowder for some great views. It’s busy on the weekends but traffic thins out thru most of the trail.

Nothing special. Boring and very crowded. But nicely maintained. Good for bikes and strollers. Not a place to come to be one with nature.

This trail is in great condition. Minor bridge damage near Wilson rd but it does not affect travel along the trail.
