Great trail. First loop includes a pretty significant scramble through the gorge. Not that long, but tricky when wet or frozen. The second loop across the road has several options to shorten or lengthen. None of it is marked or blazed.

This loop has a little bit of everything. The creekside rock scrambles were a tad precarious in winter conditions, but that was also our favorite section. I strung together some clips that we captured along the way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H976X2S3Yvo

Went back for a late fall hike here today. The trail has been mostly cleared of fallen trees and is in good condition for hiking. The Hemlock Gorge truly makes this hike a worthy trip. The 'Extended Loop' is a nice wide trail for the most part with some good hills for an aerobic workout; while the gorge requires some rock scrambling and awards you with some picturesque scenery and sounds.

Hiked the whole Hemlock Gorge extended loop. Very poorly marked. The section on the one side of the bridge is pretty easy and mostly follows fire roads/trails. There is still a huge tree down in this section that blocks trail. On the other side of bridge/road is a hidden treasure! You hike Along a creek that comes into a branch of Gunpowder Falls. There is about a 1/4 mile section that is a rocky passage. Some fun rock crawling and climbing and whitewater. You’ll Cross a few creeks and prepare to get your feet wet. Be careful around the rocks, it is pretty slippery in spots. One of the best hiking trails in the area

While the trail was not marked, the majority of the path was easy to follow, although parts were overgrown. There is currently a massive tree down blocking the path about 2/3 of the way through. You’ll need be creative while trying to go around!
