Civil war bunkers, cannons, building and views! The perfect Civil war park without the crowds. Plenty of huge cannons to defend Washington on the Potomac river entry. Lots of cannon emplacements, interpretive signs, and real civil war bunkers! The ammo dump is currently off limits. There are great water views with a building by the water, and a short half mile hike to a view of the bridge crossing to Alexandria. This park is definitely a hidden jewel.

Decent trails for a quick quiet walk. I went with my dog in the middle of the day on Saturday, and didn't see another soul. Much more peaceful than the packed trails at Great Falls with the same breeze from being next to the water, and not too strenuous. No outstanding views or waterfalls, but you can peek over the edge down to the river to see some boats and and see National Harbor in the distance. Planes fly over head regularly which made for some cool pictures. Unfortunately, there was quite a bit of glass on the trails headed down to the water. We didn't have any issues, but I think I'd be more cautious bringing my dog next time.

Peaceful but lots of trash

Ruins are fun to explore. This park feels somewhat forgotten, and there were many elements about it that seemed rather creepy.

There are a lot of barely-used trails here so, despite its small size, there's a lot of potential to explore.

Great views of DC and VA.

Easy hike for children, though perhaps best to avoid some of the more overgrown areas.

The Potomac washes up a lot of trash on the beach, which can be either sad or interesting, depending on your mindset.
