The Forest Glen (BLUE) and Pigs Run (PURPLE) trails are the two main trails if you are hiking from the Grist Mill trail to the HILTON area. In the Hilton area there is Camping, Pavilions, Restrooms and Drink Fountain. There is also a Playground made of tires for the Kids. Many people use this trail to travel from the Hilton Area down to the Orange Grove Area where the Swinging Bridge is located, which is another area with Picnic tables, Pavilions, Restrooms and Drink Fountain. Both areas can get very crowded on weekends and in the summertime. NOTE: These two trails are fine if the weather is dry because both are straight up or straight down and very Rocky. Please don’t hike these trails if it’s raining. They can become streams themselves. Muddy and slippery when wet.

Lots of Rocks and Roots. Both trails are straight up or down pending your direction. A bit cold and windy today but I truly enjoy the Patapsco Valley trail system. I am a weekly backpacker and this section of the Valley system has the best completed trails for which you can easily create your own loops or out and backs. The only time I have hiked a out and back was due to heavy rain. Many trails have feeder stream crossings and can indeed become very un-safe to cross. PLEASE NOTE: Some time this spring or summer is the start of the dam project. The Sewer pipe is being re-located under the Grist Mill Trail. The next option we will have is to use the Santee (WHITE) trail as the main connector to hike from Hilltop to Hilton or Hilton to Glen Artney. Watch for Park Updates.
