Woodlands, river views, glimpse of farmlands This hike follows a large and shallow bend made by the Potomac River in a part of western Montgomery County where farmlands rather than subdivisions predominate. It's an ever so flat towpath between Whites and Edwards Ferry. For company you'll have the mostly out of sight Potomac, the crumbling and overgrown remains of the C&O Canal bed, and woodlands galore. Both ferry sites saw military use during the Civil War, and have lots of historic as well as natural beauty to share.

Came here to do my first 10 mile run on flat grounds and it was perfect for that! Big parking lot, but gets a bit crowded. There are porta potty’s both at the beginning of trail and at the 5 mile mark, which worked out well. The sights are decent and the lockhouse at mile 5 is neat—-but nothing too extraordinary.

Quick and flat. Bikes on the trail but they aren’t crazy like the W&OD. More of a walking trail than a hike, but still beautiful to be in the woods. Also, the burgers at White’s Ferry Grill are really good!

Nice for a wooded walk with my dog. Saw a Great Blue Heron. Pretty path rich with Civil War history. Alot of bicycles.

Super easy walk, but beautiful and a serene place to walk with pups. This time of year is especially beautiful with the trees bursting in their glory, full of massive hues!
