Interpretive trail outlining turn of the century charcoaling process. This is a very short and easy stroll through a wooded interpretive trail. Along the hike you'll get a feel for what it would have been like working in the Catoctin Mountains around the turn of the century. As you hike you'll see mostly reproduction artifacts, including a logging sled and a collier's hut. You can really sense what a rustic experience it must have been. Though not an otherwise exciting or even invigorating hike, this a decent spot for the younger hiker to stretch their legs in relatively safe environs. This hike left my 6 year old thirsting for more and my 2 1/2 year old nearly ready for the transition to Dad's back for a nice nap.

Nice scenery and a fun little extra trail to tack on to my trip to this park. A little bit of history was a bonus.

This was a nice, short little hike that would be great for kids. Very educational too.
