The Baltimore County side of the Patapsco State Park is indeed the more challenging side due to all the steep up and down trails. Although this is only a 1-mile loop it's is truly one of the hardest only because of the climb up just to get to the top of the loop itself. There are lots of roots and it’s very rocky heading up. Once you are on top of the loop it fairly easy going around. The trail is mark well in (Orange) but one of the intersections is a bit confusing. Just stay to the inside of the loop. There is only one stream crossing at the Trail head spit between Soapstone & Bull Run. If you cross two streams you are going the wrong way. Even after a day of rain this high trail is always fairly dry with only a few muddy spots but no standing water.

If you are looking for a quick workout and pressed for time then this is the trail loop for you. The main trail head is to the LEFT of the well used Soapstone Trail if you are starting from the parking lot in the Glen Artney section near the restrooms. It's a bit of an uphill climb (300Ft.), but once you get to the top the trail is one big giant loop around the top of the mountain. All old growth trees with plenty of shade. You could just stay on top and do laps. Only a few sections of the trail on top are rocky but it would be a great track. There is a secret trail from the top backside called (Overgrown). You could use that to access South Rolling Rd.
