Good condition today no muddy spots. Leaves with rocks under them can make for occasional slippery areas on the hills up and down Brooks Hill.

Pretty lax trail. Good for something to get out and have an easy hike. Combined with the Ford loop.

Very nice trail. You can imagine what it was like to have been there during the civil war. Enjoyed this and the Ford Loop

I had no idea there were great hiking trails so close to the city of Frederick! And so close to our house in Ballenger Creek. This is a great morning hike and there are spots where you can walk down to the Monocacy River. It would be a great place to bring a dog for some fun time in the water. Lots of history in those fields, and the mountain range is beautiful.

Well marked once you find the beginning or end of the trail. We entered the trail behind the house. There’s another entrance to the left of the house. We prefer starting behind the house because the longest uphill part is in the beginning of the trail. A couple tricky spots for our 55 lb dog but it was easier for our 10 lb dog. Lots of shade! You can hear that the fence is live but there are no signs so be careful.

I've been going on this trail for years with my family. It's been a favorite of ours. It's super easy even for my 3 year old. It's not too long and not too short. Sometimes there's cows in the field to see too!

Nice trail. One short but really steep section. A lot of shade. Go early or during the week to avoid crowds. Combine with the Ford loop trail for a longer hike and a great walk by the river. there were about a dozen cars in the lot and only saw a few other hikers. Easy to keep social distance.

The hill was bigger than expected, but good! I think the hill puts it on the moderate side of easy.

Beautiful trail with a variety of habitats and scenery. Fantastic for some May birding. With small children, I’d rate it more of a moderate trail due to incline in places. My kids loved it though - especially the creek. Of note with kids and dogs, the fence around the cow pasture is live, but there’s plenty of trail width to keep a distance.

Little bit if elevation gain through the woods. Wear shoes with good soles. I wore running shoes and some of the pointy rocks did hurt a bit.

Went here with my dog and two kids ages 10 and 12. Good trail, well marked. We had a bit of an incline in the one direction we took but it was short lived. Recommend applying bug spray if you are prone to mosquito bites because it was a bit buggy especially near the river. Would come back again, maybe pack a lunch and sit at the picnic table near the farm house by the parking lot!

Great hike! We stopped to play in the creek and caught a salamander and crawfish. A decent sized hill (while wearing a toddler!) but not too bad.

Moderate hike. Some hills. If you visit with the cows be mindful of the electric fence if you have kiddos with you.
