This is a rewarding climb two views of greening island, the cranberries, Northeast Harbor, and the mouth of zones sound. On a day like today, when the sun is just right in the foliage is still marvelous, it can’t be beat

Moderate climb up Flying Mountain with nice views. Continued north onto the Valley Cove trail which skirts the coast of Somes Sound. Returned via the Valley Peak trail. Mostly wooded but nice views as well.

The way up from the parking lot on Ferdinand place was fine. The way down was very slick. Just a word of caution if there was any precipitation or fog this trail can get very challenging I am sure if it was dry it would have been much easier

We elected to just do this part of the usual combination hike (just Valley Peak), it was a really nice hike with some good rock scrambling, but also some nice easy parts to even out the elevation gain. We took our dog with us, and she loved it. Not hard for her at all. Recommend doing the summit clockwise, as you get a great view as a reward before you start the decent.

I would echo the review below. The best views come a short distance before the summit, and they are truly spectacular. Much of the trail is exposed rock; be careful because it can be slippery when wet--it can even be a little slippery when it is not wet. From here, you can also go on trails that connect you to St. Sauveur Mtn. or Flying Mountain.

Not an easy hike, short but steep with lot of exposed roots and old growth. The views are breathtaking, so it is well worth the effort.
