Donated to the Western Foothills Land Trust by the Detert Family in 2010, this twenty acre Preserve is open year round for non-motorized recreation. Enjoy the woods trail or the rolling former dairy farm pasture, perfectly suited for sledding, XC skiing, snowshoeing, dog walking, and kite flying, should the winds comply. Please follow standard trail etiquette of leave no trace.

We enjoyed a quiet hike through the woods today at the Shepard Farm Preserve. We spent most of our time on the Crockett Trail but also followed the Freeman Trail down to the edge of the lake. The trails are well maintained and very easy to follow. After returning to the kiosk at the parking lot, we realized we could have taken the Witt's End trail and added a bit more distance to our hike. Next time, no doubt. This trail system will be a great place to snowshoe in the winter.

Close, easy, good if you want to get out but don't have a lot of time.

Easy to follow on a well-traveled trail over 8 inches of snow. Very dog-friendly according to a local snowshoer that I ran into along the trail. More trails are being developed for the coming year and will link up with another trail system.
