We did this in December 2018. it was one of our first winter hikes, and we found it fairly challenging. There was one spot with a vertical rise and ice that was difficult even with spikes. Beautiful views! We missed the Man o War shortcut and ended up finishing in the dark on the road with underpowered headlamps. Boughtt some better ones after that!

this was a fantastic hike. I recommend going clockwise as you descend with ocean views, and there are a lot of them.

Fantastic views even on a cloudy day. Some pretty steep climbing both up and down but I think going left and hitting Acadia Mountain first looked a bit easier. We also skipped Valley Peak to avoid rain, but the hike was still 5.7 miles without it. Parking lot is easy to miss. Make sure you have a printed park pass before coming as there is no ranger station or area to pay on the way in.

A great hike with great views. I would say it’s relatively well-marked. A few times we had to stop and look for the blue mark but wasn’t too bad. As far as difficulty I know this trail is rated as moderate but I would say it was hard. There is a lot of rock climbing and pulling yourself up or down depending which way you go. The trail was more like 6 miles and took my husband and me just under 5 hours. It says dogs are allowed but it would really depend on the dog. My spaniel and spaniel/terrier mix would probably have not had an easy time and I’m glad that we left them home. Also I consider it to be lightly trafficked but we also went on a Thursday morning. I highly recommend this hike! Bring a lot of water!!!
