Purinton Homestead is a 1.7 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Bowdoin, Maine that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and snowshoeing and is accessible year-round.
Take the left back into the woods as you start along the overgrown pasture to stay on the blue trail. We went straight and that's part of the red trail that goes along the field. It does connect again to blue
This easy trail makes for a great winter hike. We went off trail a bit, to follow the frozen-over Little Gillespie Brook, and it was easy to get back onto the blue marked main trail. You can choose the stream loop or the field loop (we did both). I am not sure I'd do the field loop during tick season and the stream loop was definitely more scenic. Normally 1.2 miles, we doubled that with our side excursions using micro-spikes on the icy snow. Small parking area is easy to miss. Definitely going back to this one.
Decent walk, mostly through the woods. Nice little stream at the backend of the loop. Not much else for sites. Extremely easy.
Really pretty trail, but way to muddy right now. Ended up in the field by following this app, which got us the exact route showing on the app, but it is no longer part of the actual trail. For a less muddy option, stay on the blue trail!
really nice trail, but the field portion gets a little squirrelly if you follow the app. all in all it would be great come summer.
