Well maintained trail, even with snow. I was concerned, but it was compacted and I was able to walk merely in hiking boots without any issues.

It's a beautiful spot, a lovely walk. Easy, and accessible by all abilities, but the trail being gravel and dirt, is not wheelchair accessible.

I live in Portland so Mackworth is my go-to when I just need some fresh air and trees. It's a quick walk around the loop, but at low tide it's fun to beachcomb around the island too. Beautiful views across Casco Bay.

A perfect trail for when you want to go somewhere not too far from downtown Portland. The trail circles the island and there are beautiful views out to the water on every step. There is enough forestry to keep things cool but not too much to detract from the views. A perfectly pleasant afternoon walk.

Beautiful place for a short hike or spend the whole day swimming and picnicking. Bring your bug spray!

A true gem of Portland that really gives you a great perspective of the city. A magical place and fun easy loop for anyone. Spectacular views.

I used to walk this every day. The only issue is parking, but if you are an early bird like me, you should get a spot no problem. Parking before the bridge is for Falmouth residents ONLY. You will get ticketed or towed if not a resident. Mackworth Island is a state Park, and there is a fee.

easy walking on the trail, for more challenge one can travel along the shore in many areas.

A nice walk! I recommend park off the island and walk in via the bridge.

Better to leave Fido at home if he doesn't like to be on a leash. Entrance fee. Great geocaching walk.

Very nice state park. Fee is a dollar a head. A very enjoyable walk around the perimeter of the island with great views of east Portland, Fort Gorges and other close islands. Beach and shore access.

This is a state park and costs money to enter. No where in the description is that stated at all.

I love this trail for a quiet, private run. I don't like lots of other people around when I go for a run, and I love Mackworth for that sense of privacy. Fun loop, lovely views, and plenty shelter from trees and twists and turns, keeping it interesting. Great spot.

Very easy and pretty. The faerie village is so cute.

Sweet little trail, easy enough to even accommodate a baby stroller! Around the perimeter of the island so nice views the whole trail, steep at some bits so keep an eye on those kids!

beautiful island and great beach but the trail was too short

More of a walk than a hike, but very nice getaway for a few minutes. Crowded in spring, summer and fall. Sometimes very hard to find a parking spot. Nice views of the ocean just east of Portland. Swings and benches available for rest and viewing.

The day we went was cold and windy, but not too bad.

Very easy nice trail that follows the island perimeter. Recommend stopping to see the fairy houses. Nice quick escape from Portland.

Easy, beautiful walk. Follows the shore around the island. Wonderful things to see like the "fairy houses" that are built with natural things in one of the areas. Lots of families and dog friendly. Benches and swings at wonderful lookout places.
