It was snowing when we did the trail so we were the only one there. It was peaceful, serene, some area pretty flat & woodsy. The top part was fun to climbed for sure.

Some impressive old stone work that creates a channel for the Sandy River near the beginning of the trail. Right after the SR bridge, the trail takes a hard left and if not for the headily traveled trail you might miss it. This part of the trail is not well marked. After a moderate climb the trail becomes an easy ascent through various wooded areas with lots of wildlife habitat. The trail was a bit muddy and slippery due to snow and ice but manageable. As you gain elevation the snow covered more of the trail. The temperature was about 48F at the trail head but cooled off during the hike. At the Piazza trail marker the thermometer indicated 34F. The climb to Piazza Rock from the AT was steep and slippery. We encountered three guys with heavy packs at the AT Shelter that were staying the night then heading to Sabbathday shelter the next day. This morning (day after hike) it was 16F. Its going to be really slippery for those guys!

Really enjoyed this peaceful hike up to the rock. Trails were a mix of snow, mud and ice but overall not bad. It is definitely on the easier side of moderate. The caves are pretty cool as well.

I definitely agree that this trail is on the easy side of moderate. Slight incline to start, evens out, then the last stretch before the rock is a bit steep. Overall I very much enjoyed this trail. The rock was even more impressive in person. Got the delight of having some snow fall while hiking. There are some caves farther down on the trail marked by signs. Once to the caves the trail markers turn blue. They are fun, but do not reccomend caves this time of year with hibernation. Use caution.

HikingGreat!

Loved the hike. Was worried about how tough it would be with the initial climb but it was on the easier side of moderate I would say. Took me an hour 45 mins to go in & back. Went day after the big rain storm so it was kinda wet but very manageable. Highly recommend but I didn’t see any moose either :-(

The rock is cool. The caves were really cool. I would say the caves are not for kids under ten. Some places are hard to climb up

Awesome hike. Most of it was easy. Saw two moose about 0.9 miles from RT 4 trailhead.

Very good hike. Went on a rainy day. A lot of mud and some scrambling up rocks. It’s a little over 4 miles from parking Lot to the rock and back. Good family trail.

I loved this trail! If I lived close by it would be a regular hike for me. Very easy out and back; only the last 50 yards or so were a scramble. Lots of mud, so mosquitoes and gnats were everywhere but I had my mosquito net and Deet so I was good to go. Once I got to the rock I enjoyed a snack, hit the AT privy by the nearby shelter and hiked back to my car. Beautiful scenery. Definitely check this out if you’re thinking of a fun, quick out & back hike.

Moderate at the beginning and end. Otherwise fairly easy hike. It is shaded and a nice hike through the trees and over small streams. Piazza rock is swell! The last 50-80 yards are a little steeper and kind of a scramble but doable. **Piazza rock trail is below the parking lot across the highway.**
