Probably one of my favorite hikes we did while at Acadia. Lots of steps on the way up make you feel sorry for the people who built this. Lots of elevation gain rather quickly but overall a fun hike. A decent amount of scrambling on the way down makes it fun too. Trail was well marked, just look for the blue stripes.

Thank the gods for my long legs! Doing this at the end of 5 hrs contiguous hiking may have been a mistake. A real pounding of stairs going up. Views up top were disappointing tbh. Went down Mansell on the backside. Also, what’s this talk of ladders and rungs? There are neither, just stairs, stairs, some more stairs, also, ... stairs.

Short but challenging and rewarding walk. The stone staircase on Perpendicular is a masterpiece of trail construction, with beautiful views from the top. The descent along Razorback's rock ridge is a fun scramble, also with great views along the way.

Relatively easy as it is short. Ignore the previous review by someone about the black lab. Unless you can carry your dog up a ladder this is not a trail for dogs. There are four ladders at the top of the trail with no other way up. I fortunately was able to carry my 40 lb dog in one arm up. The rest of the trail was no issue for her. Great views of Echo Lake at the top and lots of tasty wild blueberries. We took the Beech Cliff trail down. Entire hike was just over 1 hour.

Awesome trail with many man made stairways. Count them however stop and check out the views because you get distracted by the steps.

Nice hike. Very scenic. Came down Mansell Mt. Trail which was a bit washed out rocky with roots.

I love this hike! The invigorating workout is refreshing and the views from the overlook areas are rewarding! I went Saturday at 24 Degrees. The sun was warm but the hiking really heated me up. There was very little ice on this trail but there were a few spots to be cautious while passing. The view from the summit is all grown in but at least it is out of the wind!

Hiked the Perpendicular loop trail. The ladder and rungs shouldn't scare away dog owners. Our black lab scooted right around it easily. The trail was well built and pretty interesting to follow the stone work steps around a landslide area and in front of a big cliff.

This hike is an amazing climb. When reading about trail it said a ladder and rungs to climb which there was but they were nothing really and almost not needed. I went up the trail as part of a loop hike which was Mansell and Razorback which I have put reviews in. The views were fantastic and the steps were not all that difficult to go up. If you are in somewhat decent shape it is very doable and well worth the effort. Next time I do this hike it will be up and down both ways. The best way to Mansell no doubt. It took me 30 minutes from the parking at pump house and that was with stopping for views along the way.

Took the Perpendicular Trail down to Long Pond from the top of Mansell Mt. Amazing coastal forest trail that ends in a grand winding stone staircase. Definately worth the drive to the less hiked area of Acadia National Park. Be sure to test out your echoing skills at the pond once you reach the bottom.
