Had a great time on this hike with our 3 y/o cattle dog. We skipped Sgt Mtn because it was so hot and exposed, and instead took Deer Brook Trail. We hardly saw people going up Penobscot, but near the Bubbles it became a little crowded. The views were very rewarding, and the whole loop took only 3 hours. There were some parts we had to scramble, but our dog handled it with no problems. Would definitely recommend if you want to a see a lot in one half-day hike!

Like another reviewer we skipped the sergeant mountain portion, it was a HOT day and we didn’t fancy another exposed mountainside hike. We did make a detour to sergeant pond, though, which was absolutely magical and a secluded place for a fresh water swim (one of only a few ponds where it’s allowed in the park). The views from the top of Penobscot mountain are absolutely stunning as are the views from bubble rock. There is a lot of near vertical scrambling both up and down throughout the hike so you would absolutely need to be fit and experienced for this one. Highly recommend this great strenuous hike, and made the popovers at Jordan Pond House even more delicious.

This was a great trail with lots of climbing and stepping up giant stones. Definitely worth the views. Another trail that gets the heart pumping and sweat dripping. The views at the top are astounding, overlooking Jordan pond and ocean views. We skipped out of Sergent’s Mountain and took the Deer Path to South Bubble then took the loop around Jordans pond. Great hike ended up doing 5 miles but could have done more.
