A wonderful loop hike that will take you along the shore of the Atlantic, over mountain ledges to end at Sand Beach. This hike that will take you along the shore of Newport Cove past powerful Thunderhole and then up over the open ledges of Gorham Mountain. You will have beautiful ocean views along the entire route. When you come down Gorham Mountain to the north you can also run up the Bee Hive if you have the energy. After you descend back to Sand Beach spend some time out on the sand relaxing!

Good views at the summit. Worth the hike. Good for kids. Saw some families with 4-5 year olds climbing with help. Take the Cadillac Cliffs trail at the branch for an additional challenge and time in the shade.

Awesome. We actually started from Blackwoods Campground and added a detour to the Beehives. that put an additional mile or so the the hike but we'll worth it when you have Sand Beach waiting for you at the bottom and then a nice stroll along the scenic Ocean Path to put a nice cap on the trip.

What a wonderful hike. We made this into a 4 mile hike from Fabbri picnic area. Turn left out of Fabbri and walk up Otter Cliff for about 5 minutes. Turn right into Otter Cliff path. It’s not marked but it’s the only hiking path crossing the Street so it’s fairly obvious. We walked for about 10 minutes and then came up to the Gorham Mountain trail. Make sure to take the Cadillac Cliffs detour off of Gorham Mountain Trail. Walking through the rocks was a blast. There was even a little cave and a giant rock with iron rungs which my four year old enjoyed. We loved hiking over the Gorham Mountain rocks and the views from the top were amazing. On our way back we took the Ocean Path which was easy but a little disappointing due to the crowds and traffic noises (the path runs right next to the street).

Beautiful views throughout the trail, lots of opportunities to go down on the rocky cliff edges, would definitely recommend it, don’t just stay on the trail. The fog can change your visibility quickly.

Very scenic, but very crowded trail. Partially paved asphalt path that turns to crushed stone. You can’t beat the views!

This is an easier moderate hike for Acadia. Park near thunder hole if you can then go up the road to pick up the trailhead. On your way back you can hit the toilet then return to your car to grab snacks or lunch to be had on the rocks along the water. Better yet, park closer to Sandy Beach and follow the same recommendation and soak your knees where the river meets the ocean.

I did this loop clockwise but believe it would have been equally challenging in the opposite direction. The hike was of moderate difficulty and many spots were muddy. There were nice views of Sand Beach from the summit but the views were not as impressive as from some nearby hikes.

This was the first trail I did this week on my short trip to Acadia and I’m glad it was! Got to take in some ocean shore views then a fairly easy (if you’re in alright shape) climb up to amazing panoramic views at the top. Great payoff for a trail that’s rocky but overall not too difficult. A bit of mud was on the trails as well as mosquitos so bring bug spray!

We linked this with the Beehive/Bowl for a loop - nice variety of terrain and different beautiful views!

Great dog friendly trail with amazing views. Easy walk from Blackwoods and connects to several other trails for a longer hike.

Great but trafficked trail. First hike of the trip and does not disappoint - especially the ocean path views! You can also summit the Beehive from here for the view if you don’t want to do the ladder trail from the other side.

one of my favorite trails!

Amazing views regardless of the fog in April. Hike is nice and constant with nice rocky paths and cool tundra-like vegetation. The many beach scenic spots are just sensational!

Amazing view and fun hiking with family. Little windy and foggy mid April, but still worthy!

Old Tea House foundation at the top of Great Head, definitely at least go all the way across Sand Beach to check out the stream that filters into the ocean. If you watch closely, the stream keeps changing shapes bc of the sand and the current. HIDDEN BEAUTIES.

Great hike! Not to difficult either. If you do this trail definitely take the short Cadillac Cliffs loop!

Added the Bowl Trail and part of Beehive to make it a bit more interesting. Nice scenic summits.

Great trail, started at the beehive, took the bowl to Gorham Mtn trail ended on beach trail back to beehive trailhead. 3.6 mi loop. Very few hikers this time of year. Was perfect day to hike.

This was a great hike. We took the loop counter clockwise and got all the difficult section of the trail out of the way first. The last part of the trail is very flat and easy and includes thunder hole (which you want to visit 2 hours before high tide). I am glad we had the flat section last at dusk. For my novice experience as a hiker, I would not want to be on the mountain part after dark. Beautiful views of the ocean and fall leaves.

Pretty moderate- first part is basically a walk on the road, but the views at the summit are incredible. Pretty well populated, but crowds taper off after thunder hole.

Moderate loop trail, added Bowl and Beehive to make it about a 2 hour hike, some up hill and boulder climbing, Beehive has ladders and not for everyone. Really busy October 5th, does have good views. Not a secluded hike at all if that's what your looking for.
