The goat trail was very difficult but once you got to the top, the rest of the way down was easy and very smooth. A great trail for hikers of all experience levels.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this hike. We started with the goat trail which was very steep, but not as difficult as we thought it would be. The rest of the hike after the goat trail was pretty easy, not a lot of incline. We saw many families with younger children, you would just need to be careful of all of the roots on the trail in certain sections.

I like this trail. However, the east portion of this trail, known as the Norumbega Connector on my trail map, is one of my least favorite trail sections on MDI. It was muddy and buggy and had so many roots! Insane amounts of roots growing all over the trail. Surprised more people don't break their ankle on this relatively flat portion of the trail.

Recommend taking the goat trail first. Steep ascend right in the beginning, but the rest of the hike is relatively easy. Couple of good views at the top. Surprised by the waterfall near the reservoir.

Definitely a cool hike...but I don't like where the summit sign is because I've seen people turn right back around because there's not much of a view if you come up from the Goat Trail due to tall trees. If you come up that way like I did, KEEP GOING and finish the loop because the killer views are all virtually past the summit marker!

Steep start. Found the tree roots on the way back to be harder than the climb to the top.

The trail to the summit (the Goat Trail) is very steep, but there are no rungs, scrambles or treacherous spots, just lots of steep trail with some steps. Once you are at the top there is a nice walk down the open ridge with views, and then a lovely, mossy wooded return with only gentle slopes. It's like two completely different hikes in one. Highly recommended.

Nice steep .6 miles up steps and ledges to a wonderful view of Somes Sound. Continue from summit on down to Lower Hadlock and loop back to Upper Hadlock for a nice comfortable 4 mile loop. Very doable without much hard work at all!
