Steep is an understatement.
Not marked well is an understatement.
Level moderate is an understatement for a lot of this trail. Marked as a five * because of the challenge, the quarry, and for the beauty. No need to go to the tower as it is a big disappointment.

My bulldog and I had a great hike. we met several friendly people at the top. A steep climb in but the views from the top were well worth it. A great set of memories!

Hiked again today with full 30lb pack. We found the old ATV/fire road on the left as you head up toward quarry. Taking this allows you to avoid the quarry. Off the fire road, there is a trail on the right marked by orange flagging tape. This is the trail to the top. As others have said, the trail is steep from the get go. It continues this way for @ 0.5 miles past the quarry area, then gently climbs up and down rest of way. Beautiful view at top if you go around the building & tower area. You can see the entire Penoscot Bay. Gorgeous!

Really enjoyed this hike. Great views at top. Did not find lower part of trail well marked. Quarry has lots of broken glass.

One of my favorite trails. The beginning of the trail is pretty steep There are lots of rocks to scramble at the quarry, and the quarry is extremely beautiful. After the quarry, the trail gets steep again but there are stretches where the trail levels out. At the top of the mountain there are 180 degree views. It was absolutely worth the hike. The only problem that we had was not being able to find the fire road on the way down. And the mileage is wrong. If you go down the same way you go up, it’s about 4.5 miles long.

ALSO it was hard to walk the trail without the map. There were lots of trails that went off the maine trail that we didn’t know where it led to

Definitely tough going the first half of trail. A bit confusing at the start, when the gravel road takes a hard left, go up the trail straight ahead. Also, by the quarry is not well marked. We might not have found our way without the trail map on our phone.

Beautiful on top. Not well marked around quarry area.

Took the family for the hike today. The beginning was steep and hard going, but got easier after the quarry. It was a great hike. The views were a bonus.

definitely steep and rocky heading up to the quarry. once you get past the quarry it's smooth sailing. Multiple spots with great views.

The entry to the trail was not great, however after the quarry, it certainly becomes a lot more fun and the views at the top are worth it. Backpacked with a toddler and made it fine.

We did this trail today and we were not dissapointed! It's not very well maintained, so it would rate this as a moderate hike. Great views of Camden Hills and Acadia National Park from the summit, you have to find the ledge! Towers up top will guide you. A few blow downs, and the trail is marked with orange tape and not blazes. I wouldn't take kids under 6 up the mountain but could be a nice hike for adventurous families! #lovemaineadventures

It's a great hike, fairly difficult due to all of the rocks. The quarry is great, and there's a place to jump. However, be very careful because many people have died. I swam under the spot I jumped off to make sure it was clear. People jump off the top of the quarry, but there's a lot to clear so I wouldn't suggest it.

This is not an easy trail , I wouldn't suggest small children, it's very steep with loose rocks , and the quarry could be very dangerous .. but it is beautiful and peaceful

Beautiful place to hike! I am disappointed by the graffiti on the Beautiful stones, as well as lots of broken glass by the quarry. Other than that the place is gorgeous. It's a fun, incline hike to the quarry, and an easier, marked trail in the woods the rest of the way. Beautiful views.

Steep climb at the beginning of the trail. Watch your footing until you reach the quarry, as much of the trail is washed out. Once you reach the quarry, the climb is very nice. Look for orange tags on trees for trail markings. I feel this hike should be rated as moderate. It's much too steep to be considered easy.

The quarry was awesome to see along with some of the views! The trail wasn't easy and is steep in the beginning, but my kids both made it up.

Trails not really marked out... some wash outs but not too bad. Pretty relaxing once you pass the quarry.

This is not an easy trail, I would say moderate at best. The trail/road is washed out and a very steep incline. Once you reach the quarry it is nice as you can sit and rest with a cool breeze. Be aware there are quite a few leeches in the water so wading isn't the greatest. If you stick to the deep areas your better off. There are several cliffs to jump from if you are looking for a fun swim. We went in and didn't get any leeches but saw quite a few swimming.

Took my dogs and had a great time. Hike up the main trail then veer left and you can cut around the left hand side of the pit and get an amazing view of it (pic w/ the German Shepherd in it). Appear trail might lead down the other side of the mountain but I ran out of time so just circles the quarry then returned via the main access road. Short (all told maybe 3 miles?) but great incline.

at the end of mt. Waldo Rd. in frankfort. enter at your own risk, very rocky, was once an old quarry.

trailhead on the Quarry trail is at the end of Mt Waldo rd. there's a bit of uphill with lots of loose rock under feet. Trail is not well marked but goes to the right side of the quarry hole (which with just a 2 second look you can easy see is infested with leeches). My 7 year old did it with minimal complaining. dogs are allowed Just be careful of the drop offs. Over all tho a fun short hike with nice views at the top

Nice hike, it was a little hard to keep on the trail as it wasn't well marked. But it was a fairly easy and fun hike with a pretty good view at times. Also the trail is on Mt Waldo Road, off of Rt 1A in Frankfort.

Hiked the Old Quarry Trail with my brother. Beautiful day, saw a couple people swimming in the quarry even though I didn't think it was quite warm enough.
