Chase mountain is near Baxter State park. After a drive up a rough road the trail starts as a 4 wheeler track and later steepens to a rocky trail. The ascent is a pleasant walk through the woods, with the reward coming at the granite plateau summit which provides stunning views of nearby Mt. Katahdin and its sister mountains.

Recent rain caused washout along most of the trail and it was slow going on the wet rocks. Fresh layer of leaves on the ground this time of year gave it an extra level of difficulty as well. Still beautiful, would go back again another time of year.

The views are amazing and it is very dog friendly! Will probably do this hike again! Try to hit it up a couple days after rainfall so you can take advantage of the beautiful water flow if you start by using the trail off to the far right going in!

Awesome trail. The road does require a high clearance vehicle and is pretty narrow. I got 3/4 to the trail head and had to park my Ford Fiesta and walk the rest of the way to be on the safe side.

Great short hike with awesome views of Katahdin and Baxter State Park. Little off the beaten path but well worth it, if you’re in the area.

Great trail. Easy access via Mountain Road if your vehicle has some ground clearance. The Waterfall trail is beautiful but very steep. Great scenery and well marked. Beautiful views of Baxter from the summit. 1-1/2 hour round trip at my old man pace. Highly recommend it. I’ve only seen another person on the trail one time and I’ve probably climbed it 10+ times.

Beautiful hike the entire way up! I’ve never rated before but prior to reaching summit my 11-year old daughter turned to me and said ‘you NEED to rate this 5 stars when we get home!’ And so you have it; kid friendly. There were plenty of interesting things for her to photograph and rocky formations that she climbed along the way. Enjoyable the entire hike!
