Lake Trail is all thru the forest with lots of bugs!!! A little muddy in sections but not too bad. We stopped at the first picnic table and walked a bit in the weeds to see the lake. Nice view of Saddleback Mountain slopes to the right. Turned around because of the bugs! A nice uphill climb back that got the heart pumping a bit. Love to try this trail in the winter with snow shoes.
We were surprised that Rangely Trail Center did not pop up when we searched in AllTrails.com for trails near Rangely. It seems that the Trail Center is primarily for Cross Country Skiing and snow shoeing, but we had a good time walking there. We did the hike to the Picnic Table on the lake. Some of the terrain was a bit rough due to the many roots we had to climb over, but our feet stayed dry in late Sept. A delightful thing about this walk was that there were little gnome houses, with gnomes inside of them, along the way. Kids would love this.
