Getting There

Please note there is no real trail here. This is a bushwhacking route to the top of East Kennebago Mountain. This route is only accessible by 4x4 vehicles or by trekking the gravel road that leads from the trail start on the map. If you have a 4x4 vehicle, you can continue up the road until you it ends.

Use your judgement on the road. It improved greatly after the first three of four ditches. But, be safe & know the limits of your car. This remote peak would present issues in getting cell service.

About 9 miles south on 16 from the intersection of 27 & 16 is the right hand turn off to begin the road. Carabassett is not too far off, nor are the spectacular views of Flagstaff lake along with the Bigelow range.

Be sure to bring your cell phone and have the AllTrails app running. I had to use it to find the trailhead and to stay on the trail. The trail is not marked. The first half has several snowmobile trail crossings. At yellow boundary post go left onto goat path, which would be hard to find with snow cover.

First to Review

This is a solid 3 star hike due to the rocky access road (we walked) the mindless paths from the parking lot, and a fairly easy to follow yellow-blazed bushwhack to the summit. The summit has no views - the final 1/2 mile in the woods is pretty steep, but okay. This is a good "intro to navigation" or bushwhacking type hikes. It's the easiest summit within the Maine six pack to try. Some decent views can be had from the parking lot (not where we parked - but see the waypoint on the map 4 miles in).
