Started off hiking the Orange and Black Path then connected onto the Champlain Mountain Trail. There are many viewing areas along the way. Some areas are a bit steep, as well as wet with the constant rain, so make sure you have secured footing. And if you are not used to Maine weather, dress appropriately. It can get windy and chilly during the spring and fall months.

It was a great hike with some rockier parts but nothing too difficult to navigate. The views from the top are totally worth it. We took our time watching several kestrels, 2 eagles, the peregrine, a few black vultures, an osprey and a sharp-shinned hawk traveling through.

We went to Cadillac mountain the day before for sunrise and it was extremely crowded. We were recommended by a local to hike Champlain North Ridge for sunrise and wow, we are so glad we did it! We started around 4:30am and made it to the top around 5:10. We were the only people up there for the entire sunrise and saw 1 person in our descent down, it was incredible! You’re definitely hiking at a steady incline and on rocks/slate but it is well worth it! Highly recommend. We also brought our dog who navigated quite well :)

Short, steep, and rocky hike, but all worth it for the beautiful views of Frenchman's Bay and surrounding mountains. While there is a small parking area at the trail head, parking at the Bear Brook Picnic Area guarantees a parking spot and only adds about four tenths of a mile (round trip) to the hike. There is also a restroom at the picnic area. Nice trail. Tree covered at first with occasional views of the Beaver Pond, but then opens up to steep granite slabs and open views of the bay. Trail is well marked with paint and cairns. This trail is a great way to summit Champlain Mountain. Enjoy!!!

Although the ascent is fairly constant to the summit, I wouldn’t consider this a difficult climb. The views of Bar Harbor and Frenchman Bay are fabulous almost the entire hike. Most of the trail is on granite and there is very little shade. We hiked this trail on a hot, sunny day and the heat radiating off the rock made it feel hotter than the air temperature. We would do this hike again but on a cooler day. As mentioned in other reviews, I would not do this hike when the rocks are wet.

The views are fantastic. Was a bit tricky finding the trailhead, but eventually we parked in a picnic area and just walked up the road. Unfortunately, the weather changed rapidly by the time we got to the summit, the wind was so strong that we had to crawl low to the ground (open rock face) as the rain and lightening whipped through. By the time we were halfway down, the sun came out!

Hiked down North Ridge after coming up Beachcroft. Not too difficult, but required caution as it had recently rained and there were icy sections. View of Jackson Lab for much of the way down.

Great trail on a clear day, but not your best choice if foggy/cloudy or recent rain. To find trailhead on Ocean Drive, look for the Beaver Dam on your right, and after the pond ends look for a scenic pull-off area on left side of the road. (Cross the road to find trailhead). Trail covers a good amount of vertical in a steady climb. Unfortunately, the first quarter of the climb is directly overlooking the smokestacks of Jackson Lab, and the load noises coming from the facility. About 1/2 way to summit, be careful to stay right for the summit - met several hikers who accidentally went left on Orange & Black trail and needed to turn back. This corner is a little confusing, but if trail starts to descend, you'll know you are accidentally on the orange & black. The upper 3rd of trail is steady ascent over exposed granite and this can be very slippery if there's been recent rain or in any amount of rain. Expect about 1 to 1.5hr going up, and only about 20-30min coming back down. Views at summit are awesome on a clear day, and yes you can peek over the top of the Precipice trail. Trail gives good opportunities to connect with others. Note that if you continue on Champlain South trail you'll quickly hit more crowds that are usually never present on Champlain North. If wondering whether to ascend on Champlain North of BeachCroft trails - we prefer the ocean views from Champlain North, but find Beach Croft to be an overall more interesting trail.

We love this trail. Views at the top half are spectacular. This is why we come to Acadia. Mountains meet ocean. It is also just jaw dropping (to me, as one who is SO afraid of heights) to see all those brave souls - old and young - who have just completed the adjacent *vertical trails, at the top.

Took this down from the summit after ascending Precipice - great views of Bar Harbor from the top. Take orange/black path as a shortcut to the Precipice parking lot.

This isn't a difficult hike, but there are a couple of scrambles to get past. However, this hike has views pretty much immediately, so you're in awe the entire time. :)

Excellent trail. Be amazed when you hit the top of Champlain and begin descending the south ridge and find all the crowds coming from the Beehive area. Good views back towards Bar Harbor and to the east and south once you get high enough.

900 ft up over 1 mile. There are some very steep points usually followed by stretches of more gradual incline. Many places to pull off the trail and take in a view or rest, but save some pictures for the summit.
