July 25: Ascended Beehive, dropped down onto Bowl trail and took the trail up the south ridge of Champlain. I started at 5:30 am and summited Beehive by 6 am. I had the whole trail to myself. Views were outstanding, and I loved the challenge of the climb. It was totally doable if you don’t mind heights. The journey to Champlain summit was beautiful with some fun scrambling. It was worth the extra distance. This led to other hikes like Precipice which was closed and the north ridge of Champlain. I didn’t hear voices for two hours until I neared the Bowl on my descent. On the way to car, I saw groups heading toward Beehive with small children. One group was playing loud music. Hike early. You might be able to hear the birds.

Hiked up Beehive, down to Bowl, then to Champlain. Once over Champlain, caught the shuttle back to the start. Challenging, but a great day!

Started on the Orange and Black Trail then continued onto this trail. I am so glad I continued. The views are beautiful, and afterward you have a selection of trails to head down as well.

Such an excellent way to make your hiking experience longer at Acadia. Start at the Beehive trailhead and work your way up the ladders and follow the trail through to the pond and up Champlain mountain summit. One of the best hikes in my opinion. Open views all around, and a great lunch spot at the pond before continuing on. Can connect to the Bowl and Gorham trail if you do not want to descend Beehive.

Fairly long trail with a couple sections of arduous paths but the view was SO worth it! If you just stay on the path and push through you’ll soon be met by a stunning view of the harbor!

Fantastic trail! The ascent up Champlain offered nice views, followed by an awesome view of the coast from the summit. On the the way down to The Bowl there were plenty of delicious wild blueberries. Once we got past The Bowl and to The Beehive, there were huge crowds of slow-moving flip-flop wearing people trying to get up the Beehive for the photo op. I ascended and got down as soon I could and found a nice spot for a swim in The Bowl to cool down. Back up Champlain and to the car was easy, although it was quite hot and there’s a lot of hiking in the sun! Overall was great.

I started at the Champlain Mountain Ridge trail parking lot and took the bus to Sand Beach. I then went up the Beehive Trail and up Champlain Mountain from the South side. The trail is beautiful but is very exposed. The ascent up the Beehive was not very difficult in my opinion, however I am an experienced north-east hiker and a mildly experienced rock climber. The Bowl was an excellent picture spot, and the ascent up Champlain Mountain gave excellent views to the South, including the Bowl, The Beehive, and Gorham Mountain. The summit of Champlain is spacious and gives wide views of the surrounding mountains and water as well as the town of Bar Harbor. The summit quickly gets crowded as there are many trails that intersect nearby.

Lots of nice scenery (and bumblebees!). I took a longer route to the beach around to the Precipice Trail (it's unfortunately closed every March thru November) and the Orange and Black Trail where I then completed the rest of the Champlain Trail. Would highly recommend this route to anyone that isn't afraid of heights.

This is a moderately strenuous hike which affords very good panoramic views from both summits. The ascent from the trailhead is well maintained and the trail is rather obvious. The summit of Champlain Mountain gives good views of the rocky coast to the east, the distant Northwoods to the north, Cadillac Mountain to the west and the rugged, island-studded coast that is quintessential Maine. The descent from Champlain Mountain to The Bowl is south-facing and was warm for our trip. The ascent from The Bowl to The Beehive is easy and the summit affords views to Sand Beach below. If we had had more time, we would have done the counter-clockwise loop from The Bowl up The Beehive, via the exposed south face. Upon returning to the summit of Champlain Mountain, the descent to the Park Loop Road ("Ocean Road" on AllTrails map) via the North Ridge is a cakewalk. The walk back to the trailhead along the one-way Park Loop Road and Otter Creek Highway is easy; just keep out of the way of oncoming park traffic.

Nice quick scramble up to Beehive-- definitely go up the Champlain Mountain and make it a nice little hike! A few ways to get down from the summit-- choose wisely :)

Champlain mountain was a nice, peaceful hike with some great views. As soon as we hit Beehive, it was chaos with the hoards of people and children, some hiking in flip flops. If you want to see the Beehive, would start first thing in the AM to avoid crowds.

One of the best 'moderate' hikes in Acadia. Taking your time and omitting the Beehive can put this in the 'easy' class. Gorgeous panoramic views on top.

Firstly the 2.2mile discription for this track is not correct. We did the loop as follows: parking area on rt 3 north of the tarn lake to the summit of Champlain via the beachcroft trail 1.2 miles. This section is classic Acadia manicured path with many steps and rock ways that switch back up the exposed west face of Champlain. Moderately steep. Summit to park loop road via the north ridge trail, 1 mile. Easy grade down the north shoulder or ridge of my Champlain through granite slabs and pine woods. Park loop road (walking against traffic) to rt 3 bridge returning to parking area at the tarn lake, .8 miles passes a beautiful beaver pond. This would have been a perfect hike, except that we did it in fowl weather with rain and fog. Made for some slippery footing especially on the slabs at the top. Still the setting was perfect and the hardest grade would be on the beach croft trail at moderately steep. Hope to do this one agin in better weather!

Beautiful hike. Start at the Bowl and go for a swim before heading up the mountain! Or hike toward beehive and reward yourself with a swim at the end.
