In 1978 Cascade Stream Gorge was listd in the Maine State Planning Office’s Register of Critical Areas because of its natrual, scenic and geological features incuding a stunning gorge that drops 90 feet into the stream. With 50 acres of steep forested land and over a 1/2 mile of frontage on Cascade Stream, this is a popular hike for summer visitors seeking a refreshing spracy of cool air, or lunch at one of the two picnic sites. Cascade Stream flows out of City Pond, which is just to the east of the property and was once the public drinking water supply for the Town of Rangeley.

Great little gem. Waterfalls are amazing. Hike starts off going up but it's only a mile if that. Parking can be had at the Sandy Plantation Town Hall and walk to the right of the town hall and pick up the trail there. The steep drive to the parking lot is in rough shape.

Beautiful walk along stream during Christmas week. Lots of ice with a gentle roar of water. Dramatic cliffs. Stayed on the trail til it joined Fly Rod Crosby trail... which is also very nice and apparently leads to Saddleback. A number of trees across the trail. Tricky for older people and dogs.

Enjoyed this walk along the falls. Hooked onto Crosby fly fishing trail for a bit.

Short, easy trail to some pretty views of the gorge. We took our time with a 10 year old and dogs - took us about 2 hours. Good for lunch and swimming/cooling off. Path is very clear but is rocky/rooty.

Loved this hike! A little tricky in spots but worth it for the beautiful waterfalls and gorge. A little swimming spot towards the beginning.

It’s a lovely little trot. Stick close to the river and you’ll discover a second trail where you can actually see the falls!!!!

Nice woods and creek, but very rocky and slippery to hike with a 4 yo and a baby carrier. We didn't go the whole way because of a couple falls and tears.

Awesome short hike. Went in March, so the trail was completely covered in ice and snow. The waterfalls and river frozen over made for an incredible sight. We were lucky that snowshoe tracks made navigating the trail less slippery, but there are plenty of trees along the route to grab on to when balance feels precarious. If you’ve never seen the trail in winter, it is definitely worthwhile!

My favorite place to swim, not usually crowded and so much to explore! The water is super cold unfortunately, but so worth it!

Grew up with this trail in my back yard. Use to hike it before it was open to the public. This trail is definitely one of the best places to visit two waterfalls in the Rangeley area.

One of my favorite trails in the Rangeley Region! Feature several waterfall drops, awesome fly-fishing and some great swimming holes!
