Gorgeous, playful, iconic and one-of-a-kind historic trail- definitely recommend doing it in nicer weather rather than in drizzle so that you can enjoy the stunning views to the sea! I strung it together with Orange and Black and Precipice and then completed with Beechcroft and it was my favorite day in the park.

This is a must do but you really have to be in shape and not afraid of heights. As mentioned below, trail is closed well into August, starting in June (I think) until the baby peregrines fledge. If you're lucky enough to see one of the parents hunt, it's something you'll not forget. Peregrine re-introduction in Acadia has been very successful and now several trails are closed June-August. Almost all trails in Acadia afford tremendous ocean and lake views, some with very little effort, so don't despair.

Not for over 50 years of age? Phooey! I last climbed Precipice at age 61 as part of a solo journey to Acadia, one of my favorite places in the world. Climbed it with the husband and kids years ago several times too. Gotta be in shape, yes. Precipice is like a rite of passage if you are a hiker visiting Acadia National Park. Bee Hive trail at Acadia is al good, saw someone fall off and die there several years ago, while I was recovering on Sand Beach and looking up there. Great memories of my younger and stronger days, for sure! And what a view from up there, looking out over Ocean Drive to the sea!

Best trail in Acadia. Go on a dry day and be prepared to climb to the top. Afraid of heights don't try it not much room to turn around.
