I was so glad I stopped to use an outhouse, because behind it was the trail. Since I went in October, which I definitely will again, the leaves were turning color, as well as the blueberry ridge/fields, and you can walk along a stream. It's about three miles to get to the ledges, but if you want to take a different trail back, which is a little more flat/easy, take the trail heading downstream. You might notice a couple more hidden viewing areas along the way. (Oops! an Acadia National Park photo got in there.)

Made this part of a loop that included the Appalachian Trail which we went up from the Abol Bridge then down this trail (Blueberry Ledges) and got a total of 17.9 miles round trip. Trail Sign mileage is never correct, remember that! Don't cheat yourself, take a GPS or Fitbit and track your true mileage. Anywho... this is an all day hike with plenty of waterfalls, rapids, creek crossings, and other great scenery. Trail is fairly easy with no real steep grades or altitude changes.

This trail is in Baxter State Park and dogs are NOT allowed in the park. We hiked this from "The Birches" on the Tote Road to the Ledges with kids 7, 10, 12. The trail is well marked. The first part is a beautiful moss environment and we expected gnomes or fairies to appear. There are a few crossings of mud/water where you need to balance, but it was navigable. The ledges had many blueberries and a natural and cold waterslide the kids (and adults) enjoyed. Watch out for the more stagnant parts of the water as there were tiny leaches. The kids enjoyed it and said it was the best part of the weekend.

We hiked from BSP road to the ledges. About 6 miles in and out. Trail has a difficult section about 2 miles in. Steep and rocky with a small brook to cross with no bridge.
